Star is buying rights of many films which won't work on TV. These r multiplex flicks which r usually 1 time watch... That too for select audiences. Already Luka Chuppi, Stree , Badhaai Ho, etc. are not giving desired ratings or should i say not working even better than or even equal to older 90's films residing with Star India.

Zee is much better at acquiring movies, they have lot of Masala Films which work well among each segment and heathy library of offbeat stuff too . They even have smart thinking of buying movies which might not have worked in theatres buy get viewership on TV premiere.
That's why they bought YRF

Sony is like the stingy customer which buys movies unexpectedly, eg Game Over

Bro Luka Chuppi First Telecast Big hit in TV also
Luka Chuppi has performed phenomenally well in TV premiere. The movie garnered a solid 1.25 crore impressions becoming the third best of the year behind Total Dhamaal (1.67 crore) and 2.0, Hindi version (1.65 crore).

This means Luka Chuppi has performed better on TV than Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba, Salman Khan starrer Race 3 and Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri: The Surgical Strike. Not just that, the movie has also beaten the likes of previous years hits on TV, namely - Sanju, Raid and Pad Man.
Luka Chuppi performs huge on TV; beats Simmba, Sanju, Raid and Uri

Yes, but only restricted to first airing which is bcoz all the unnecessary hype created these days. If movie had appeal then same should have reflected in subsequent runs. Fact is that these won't work on TV.

Anyways next year onwards Star will have quite decent number of mass appealing films
