So Yashwardhan bhai if u still have doubt whether Phantom, Baaghi, Tamasha rights r with UTV or not then google these movie titles and u will see all these r available on Netflix which is streaming partner of UTV owned films. Heropanti is with Sony Pictures Networks India and available thru YouTube Movies and i think this may well be a case like Dilwale (2014) where Sony entered into special agreement with producers to get satellite + digital rights for certain, post expiry Heropanti will b with UTV and shift to Star/Disney.
There is also the movie Kick which is with star/disney most probably with star/disney bcoz of agreement with Sajid Nadiadwala or Salman Khan and hence will shift out soon. Had it been with UTV then it would be available with Netflix and not Hotstar.
So all in all there r following categories in which UTV Fims can b divided
- UTV Own produced films which will b the broadcaster who has/had agreement with UTV at that point of time.
- Those films where UTV is just the distributor in which case rights might or might not b owned by them. Also it is quite difficult to decode as incase of Ye Jawaani Hai Diwani where Netflix has OTT rights but this can well be bcoz of Dharma Production's agreement with them. In 2012 satellite rights of this film might b with UTV or could b with Dharma Productions or could b a joint call to sell rights as at that time . Why i feel rights could b with Dharma Productions at that time is bcoz they r quite flexible in making satellite rights agreement depending on co producer or distributor they have, so in 2012 they sold own produced Agneepath to Zee and Student Of The Year (co produced with Red Chillies) to Sony while when in collaboration with UTV they would have gone ahead with a joint choice. Might also well be that UTV had the rights initially for few yrs then later on same were handed over to Dharma Productions which has recently sold this movie to its current partner viacom18. Initially one won't b able to tell whether Wake Up Sid , Wake Up Sid rights were with Dharma Productions or UTV but later it became clear that UTV had the rights. There r films like Heropanti, Phantom, Tamasha, Baaghi where one could easily tell that UTV sold the satellite rights as had it been Sajid Nadiadwala then all these films would have went to star india and hotstar, Also Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya is same category where UTV sold rights to Sony and had Tips held the rights then same would have gone to zee at that point. Currently too UTV has their rights as all r on Netflix
- Those films which r co produced by UTV as well as distributed by them like Rowdy Rathore, Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu, I Hate Luv Storys where in all likelihood UTV has the rights
