Sony is on acceleration mode after pressure from various sources that they have to have a balance between South and Bollywood. They desperately need a niche channel and the Viacom deal will help them.

Problem is Sony is rapidly shutting down channels and not launching new ones, so do not expect it from Sony. It is more likely that Viacom18 post-merger will launch such a channel since there are several Viacom18 channels with test names right now. Whether they will use the Sony or Colors brand remains to be seen. But let the merger be confirmed first.
