Should Sports Networks have Regional Channels?

APV shouldn't provide feed to DD for second ODI citing misuse of contract by Prasar Bharti, then the case will be agressive in all relavant courts, now that DD is distributing freebies, courts don't look interested

In my opinion it should be made available across all platforms and DD should share 75% of ad revenue with Amazon. Total blackout on TV is not the right thing, in anycase Amazon would not be earning anything if there is total blackout on TV despite spending high amount on acquiring TV rights.... OTT audience base is quite limited as compared to Total Number of People who prefer watching content on TV bcoz of various reasons, if India Cricket matches remain exclusive to OTT still most won't switch to OTT for watching the same
No problem let those who are interested in watching India cricket subscribe to APV others dont watch the match watch something else like India hockey or FIFA WC. It will be good for other sports in India

They already did so buddy but their petition has been dismissed by the honourable court. Actually DD Sports has not violated the stated contract signed with Amazon but as i mentioned Dish TV / Siti Cable sited that this feed should be made available to them in unencrypted manner quoting the rules laid down in Cable TV Regulations Act 1995.

Actually Doordarshan should have entered into agreement with Amazon to provide the series across all platforms as they restricted it just to DD Free Dish hence private platform invoked the non-discriminatory clause mentioned in the above Act.

Same cannot be done by private DTH / Cable TV platforms when some private sports broadcaster holds the TV rights of a event / board as it has been clearing stated in Sports Act that such feed has ti be shared with Doordarshan but made available only on DD Free Dish / terrestrial platforms. OTT platforms are not included in this Law thus it leaves a loophole for Private Pay TV Platforms to exploit and get access to the said feed . This is why i said OTT platforms acquiring exclusive TV rights is not the right thing to do when they do not have a TV channel or do not strike an agreement with some existing private sports broadcaster to make it available to the larger public. If Amazon states in court that we have exclusive TV rights hence it cannot be made available on DD Sports across all platforms , respected judge may point out that blackout of such sports events on Pay TV platforms in a way denies mass audience the option to watch such events as TV is still the most preferred/affordable /accessible option to watch content.... Thereby either Amazon should enter into some partnership with a private channel to air the said event or launch their own TV Channel, if this not possible then TV rights should be left to be bought by private sports broadcasters or Doordarshan

Nope judge cant overrule on this as it is the broadcaster choice on which platform they can telecast if judge overrules this then it will open a pandora box coz some other broadcaster may broadcast a different event on OTT and suddenly again situation may happen. Example if Indian cricket match happening and as we know all 5 channels of a broadcaster telecasting cricket and then Indian hockey is happening and broadcaster decides to telecast it in OTT then again people may go to court saying no broadcast in TV. So there cant be preferential treatment to Cricket or any sport for that matter.

Hence the best decision would be court giving advice (not order) saying that it would be better to have tv broadcast but it would be up to the host broadcaster to finally decide whether to broadcast on TV or not

No mention of India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI in tomorrow's EPG schedule of DD Sports / DD Sports 1.0
DD Sports EPG is never fixed & keeps on changing, came to know this during WI vs IND series, they used to update EPG just few mins before the match starts
also Amazon Prime Video ads again stating that 2nd ODI Live and Exclusive only on their OTT platform.

Has Amazon been successful in getting a stay on order passed 2 days back by TDSAT which allowed streaming of the series on DD Sports across all DTH / Cable TV Platforms too?
Same ads & promotions were seen for 1st ODI too which aired on DD Sports

APV did provide feed, hence it was relayed to all operators, whatever be the reason, What I'm saying is that APV shouldn't provide feed for 2nd ODI, come what may ,to DD, let the case be agressive then, Prasar Bharti always uses loopholes and tries to be oversmart always, let there be a complete blackout on TV, APV has both TV and digital rights and they have paid for it, who is DD to distribute freebies at cost of APV

These OTT services grossly over estimate the total addressable market for a paid subscription platform in India but it also opens an argument that pushing a popular sport exclusive on a digital platform will accelerate the audience shift to digital medium. Even in the US, sports haven't been made the shift. They largely rely on revenue from linear cable business. Recently, APV premiered Thursday Night Football exclusively on their platform. We would know how it performed and the unit economics only when they release the next quarterly report.
