what a timing for Reliance Industries, they have franchise team, Media Rights, hosting matches on their own stadiums. Definitely it's not conflict of interest.

Now they're ahead of getting whole BCCI too, I'm not surprised if Anant/Aakash Ambani replace legend Jay Shah in BCCI secretary.

No chance but annat /akash Ambani maybe good chance to replace current treasurer of bcci Ashish Shelar

How can you say own stadium when the schedule is not yet come most likely Mumbai wont host any match for WIPL as Tier 2 cities like Guwahati, Dharamsala and Kochi will be chosen

But this time Sony's trick doesn't work. Earlier Star is their only rival. And Star fall back after they got sufficient biggie events or their desired ones. Then they either take part other auctions without much aggressiveness or doesn't participate. Thereby Sony got many events without going higher negotiations. But now Viacom 18 is aggressive in buying events big or small, costly or cheap, popular sports or not.. They are present every where and fight till end. So Sony has to play with more money to get rights.

Hotstar failed due to their cheap subscription plans and free offerings with mobile recharges.(149/ 3 months is very cheap).
Sports 18 not going for minor tournaments , example, Viacom could have go for Ind - Ban series last month , but it gave it to Sony without any competition
Right now, Sports 18 target is BCCI tournaments only, once all bids over, and if left with their budget, then they go for other tournaments
And with one channel, it is difficult for them to go for other board cricket rights.

They are going for properties that will give revenue I would like to know how much profit Sony got from Ind-Ban series it would be very small and it is a good thing that they have only 1SD and 1HD channel they should launch just 1 more channel then for all regional languages they should make people watch it online in app instead of having 1 channel separately for each language like Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and all.

What they did for FIFA WC was perfect have English commentary in Sports channel hindi commentary in MTV or any GEC then regional languages on JioCinema that way people who want regional language will start moving towards JioCinema and you dont need to have specific channel to cater to one audience or else they can do what they are doing for SA20 and keep tamil feed in Colors tamil same way Kannada feed in Colors Kannada and so on

The strategy is good from sports 18, they looking for rich profit tournaments same way how Star was 5 - 10 years back,
Both Viacom and SS going for rich tournaments and sony is happy with whatever left with.

After losing IPL digital rights , and gave away ICC tournaments to ZEE, i want to see what additional cricket rights star will go here after.
Whether they will go for other board rights like how they are in 2000s holding almost all cricket board rights except pakistan , Pakistan rights was with TEN network.

BCCI was with Nimbus (NEO). I think Bangladesh was with them as well. New Zealand was with Sony. Australia and England were with Star ESPN. So who had West Indies?

Except for one dumb broadcaster and a sheep broadcaster which tries to initiate them. New ones like Eurosport and Sports 18 has actual brain. They know ad money isn't bringing back close to what's invested on running a 24x7 regional sports channel.

This is 2002 news

“The network has exclusive rights to telecast cricket played in eight out of 10 test playing nations. We have also acquired the rights to Bangaladesh cricket till mid-2006. We will continue to bring the best sports events to the Indian fans in the coming years,” ESPN’s official spokesperson said.

Except India , Srilanka, other rights was with Star ESPN in 2002. Later TEN network started it acquired Pakistan sharjah rights

Link doesn't work for me. Anyhow I was talking about post that period based on observation. They lost most rights I mentioned after 2006. Also Ten Sports owned West Indies and Zimbabwe rights.
