Should Sports Networks have Regional Channels?

That shows your bias towards. He was clearly asking for a better logo and graphics which doesn't even requires high spending. If any broadcaster acquires any rights. They should atleast make sure we get a proper experience watching same. Sony also airs sporting events with customized scorecards. They even have ads on it. No one here complains about them. Despite ads it doesn't look cheap. Having a good-looking logo comparable to International market here helps them too.

Where does the bias question arise? I mentioned all sports broadcasters in above post and said that in India they acquire rights of various sporting events at extremely high cost and barring a few others do not generate much revenue. Hence unlike foreign broadcasters which charge premium subscription fee for viewers to watch such events on their channels here in India we r getting all things massively discounted pricing, still if one expects everything to be at par with foreign sports broadcaster standard then sorry that is not financially viable for an Indian Sports Broadcaster

All sports broadcasters do have customised graphics/scorecards for key events like when India tours some other country for cricket match or even in some other sports or if broadcaster themselves have a say in deciding upon these matters or they have make available sports events on a regional/hindi language sports channel. In rest of the cases, all sports broadcasters just telecast the concerned events as received from host broadcaster end apart from few changes like placing some L shaped ads or other such minor changes to it.

Also liking a logo or graphics or style of presentation is a personal preference. Some may like Star Sports in this case others may like Sony Sports. Also incase of sports broadcasters which have international presence, they tend to keep some uniformity in graphics or style of presentation and have a common alignment worldover for their bouquet of channels. Like recently u saw Sony implementing a change of logo for their channels which has been adopted for their international channels sometime back.

Also please buddy stop bringing this argument of bias / being anti etc. in ur views about my posts, i share my opinion and u can counter it without using such terms. I tend to disagree with ur and other member's statements on various topics but i never use such terms and rather discuss the topic with facts, information which should be the approach. 🙏

You literally defended mediocrity stating how we should be grateful to get sports at lower price comparison to other countries. Do you know how much money people countries' like US and UK makes compared to us? Ariana Grande! Also broadcasters in money making business not charity business. They make money off whatever they acquire.

Is there a delay in ISL telecast from broadcaster side ?
I was getting Goal notification on Goal App some 1.5 minutes before the goal was scored on Live(?) telecast on Asianet Plus channel (on SUN DTH).

Arre buddy it is not about how much money people earn in foreign countries but the main point is that in India Sports Broadcasters have to spend lot of money in acquiring rights of these sporting properties and returns r very minimal for most of them barring few exceptions. Just see what Star Sports has to spend for EPL, F1 or for how much Sony Sports acquires UEFA, Tennis Grand Slam etc. rights....these do not generate much ad revenue and subscription fee is bare minimum so how do u think they r supposed to recover all the investment?

If Indian Sports Broadcasters just invest more at making everything at par with foreign broadcaster standards then we will further face monetary losses. Already they try absorb such losses thru profits made via their other popular channels present across other genres

It is not about accepting mediocrity but being being objective. Yes, do criticise broadcasters when there is actual need to do so or where it is justified but here it is not.

For example in say a developed foreign country where people have average wage of Rs. 10000 and there a broadcaster has to pay 80 million Rs. for acquiring of EPL so do u think in India if average wage is 3000 Rs. then Indian Sports gets EPL rights at 70% discount. This is not the case buddy, just google the facts and u will see the enormous amount sports broadcasters have to spend for such big sporting properties....it is massive and even mid or relatively less popular sporting event rights come at high cost....add it to it the huge investments made in Cricket which again r very difficult to recover be it BCCI, IPL, ICC rights or even Australia, New Zealand or other such cricket rights which may cost lot less than India Cricket but hardly attract ad revenue except when India tours such countries.

Now add to above the dollar or pound or euro exchange rate vs Rupees which again makes Indian Sports Broadcasters pay lot more for buying international sports events rights. Cost of running channels, various kind of fees/taxes which is needed to be paid to government,,salary costs, etc. the expenditure r massive. There is hardly any legroom available. So buddy please have objective approach towards things. Broadcasters r sure not there for charity but running sports channels in India and buying expensive rights of sports events is not really easy, broadcasters have to maintain a balance for them to have a financially viable business model for its channels

First thing I am gonna do is stop reading essays. I regret defending these before. As a millennial I have low attention span. I have hard time finishing a movie in one sitting. Leave alone reading chapters at one go and replying to it. If you want to have a proper discussion with me or any other member of this forum. Please make your post shorter.

HBO Premium HD channels were not started with purpose of popularizing their shows or movies....their content already had huge following. They thought that India is ready to subscription driven channels and initially offered the 2 channels HBO Defined HD and HBO Hits HD at introductory price of Rs. 69 which itself was too steep and later increased the same to Rs. 99. Remember if u see the range of content they offered it was excellent and worth the price but for 2 reasons their channels were unsuccessful...1stly as we know Indians barring 1% affluent population won't be willing to spend such an amount for 2 channels and 2ndly few people in the non affluent bracket who may be willing to subscribe to these channels at such price won't do so as much of their shows or movies required censorship for it to be shown on TV. Hence as OTT + Affordable Internet gained momentum HBO decided that it is best to shutdown these channels. 1 year Before shutting down these channels they even handed over distribution of these channels to Star India and later Star India even bought TV+Satellite rights of their shows. Now i believe they no longer hold the TV rights of most of the HBO shows, few of which they have it would be part of the old ongoing agreement, they would just continue having OTT rights of the same until HBO decides to launch HBO Max in India and reserve rights for itself. Disney-Star now also has signed agreement for TV/Satellite rights of Warner Bros movies and hopefully they will also acquire TV rights of Warner Bros TV shows incase they plan to revive its English GEC channels in near future

Now coming to Star World Premiere HD i have already discussed the reason for its failure, ofcourse pricing and censorship were the 2 reasons but i completely agree that by shifting new shows on this channel and making Star World largely a channel having just re-run of old shows Erstwhile Star India under Fox Leadership made a huge mistake. Star World lost out to Zee Cafe, Colors Infinity bcoz of this one major wrong decision. Fox Crime was a good channel but again had a very niche appeal , FX had good potential to be a success but despite best efforts put by Star India it failed to garner desired ratings or ad revenue.FX aired wide range of shows and even its HD feed was launched but with OTT (alongwith complimentary subscription being provided at various levels) gaining prominence and affordable/free internet/broadband being available English GEC channels had started observing decrease in viewership. From end of 2017 onwards Star World Premiere HD shed its premium channel tag and was offered as part of Star India bouquet and once Disney took over control of Star India they tried to revive Star World Premiere HD and it used to air so many different variety of new as well as old shows from 2019 until March 2022 but sadly again it failed to gain ratings thus attracted no ad revenue and hence Disney-Star ceased airing regular content on it and kept it under shutdown list. Star World on the other hand continued to air just few new shows until end of 2021 and rest of schedule was filled with just How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, The Office etc. Disney-Star could have aired mix of old and new shows on it and it would have helped attract emerging and regular audience to this channel but they decided to focus on providing English GEC content on their OTT platform Disney+Hotstar. It was "Not" NTO which added further to the issue but hike in prices done by broadcasters with implementation of NTO which further lead to downfall of English GEC channels and even decline in subscription of pay tv channels across other genres ... Many people even discontinued their Cable / DTH connection and opted for DD Free Dish and OTT platforms

I still hope they will reconsider the decision and atleast keep Star World on air.. May be rebrand/revamp it and come out with exciting content strategy for the same...they can even bring FX back or launch Disney ABC brand in India . English GEC channels still can work well on TV if good curated content in provided at affordable pricing. Remember people r facing OTT fatigue since last 2 years.. Searching for content on OTT is time consuming and cumbersome process add to it issue and managing and paying for multiple OTT platforms which itself is not liked by many people. In order to watch favorite content one has to subscribe to multiple OTT platforms as rights of different content r held by various OTT platforms and most importantly people do not get time to watch much of the content and money goes waste. Broadcasters have great opportunity to cater to such viewers and provide curated content on their channels which would attract large section of audience towards their channels. Certain content which requires censorship can always be made OTT exclusive.

Lastly coming to 4K content , those buying 55 inch or above 4K TV sets can stream the sports events or watch shows/movies in 4K on OTT platforms as made available. On TV 4K is not a financially viable option for broadcasters

Just adding to above point that even though Disney-Star may have cut upon spending for English GEC channels but they have enormously increased the investment done in acquiring old / new Hollywood, Dubbed Hollywood and Bollywood Movies for its English / Hindi Movie Channels which is an excellent thing. They truly deserve appreciation and praise for the same.

Still i hope they reconsider decision to exit English GEC genre on TV/Linear medium & revive their English GEC channel Star World with good content, attractive packaging as well as well pricing which would surely get good response from audience thereby ensuring to deliver desired ratings and ad revenue
