Bro Indian broadcasters are not fool, they spend maximum amount of money in Cricket and that's too their first priority is BCCI and IPL rights., In 2018 when STAR decide to get IPL and retain BCCI rights they didn't even bid for English and Australian Cricket rights and both the board gets what SONY offers them.. UEFA, EPL, LALiga etc etc just get what Indian broadcasters offers them (with very little compitions from each other) also they didn't telecast each n every match and then there is timing issue.Arre buddy it is not about how much money people earn in foreign countries but the main point is that in India Sports Broadcasters have to spend lot of money in acquiring rights of these sporting properties and returns r very minimal for most of them barring few exceptions. Just see what Star Sports has to spend for EPL, F1 or for how much Sony Sports acquires UEFA, Tennis Grand Slam etc. rights....these do not generate much ad revenue and subscription fee is bare minimum so how do u think they r supposed to recover all the investment?
If Indian Sports Broadcasters just invest more at making everything at par with foreign broadcaster standards then we will further face monetary losses. Already they try absorb such losses thru profits made via their other popular channels present across other genres
It is not about accepting mediocrity but being being objective. Yes, do criticise broadcasters when there is actual need to do so or where it is justified but here it is not.
For example in say a developed foreign country where people have average wage of Rs. 10000 and there a broadcaster has to pay 80 million Rs. for acquiring of EPL so do u think in India if average wage is 3000 Rs. then Indian Sports gets EPL rights at 70% discount. This is not the case buddy, just google the facts and u will see the enormous amount sports broadcasters have to spend for such big sporting properties....it is massive and even mid or relatively less popular sporting event rights come at high cost....add it to it the huge investments made in Cricket which again r very difficult to recover be it BCCI, IPL, ICC rights or even Australia, New Zealand or other such cricket rights which may cost lot less than India Cricket but hardly attract ad revenue except when India tours such countries.
Now add to above the dollar or pound or euro exchange rate vs Rupees which again makes Indian Sports Broadcasters pay lot more for buying international sports events rights. Cost of running channels, various kind of fees/taxes which is needed to be paid to government,,salary costs, etc. the expenditure r massive. There is hardly any legroom available. So buddy please have objective approach towards things. Broadcasters r sure not there for charity but running sports channels in India and buying expensive rights of sports events is not really easy, broadcasters have to maintain a balance for them to have a financially viable business model for its channels
Apart from SONY, The two big fish, STAR and Viacom18 are also in the race then it's Game Over for SONY......, (Khatam, bye bye, tata, Goodbye, gaya )SLC to open bids for global rights on March 1
Cricbuzz understands that Sony Sports, the current global rights holders, could be facing competition from Star Sports and digital player FanCodewww.cricbuzz.com
good to see indian broadcasters are in race for SLC rights. Viacom entry into market makes the competition healthy. Hope WI/BAN rights also will be available soon in indian tv sets
STAR & Viacom not required, Now Fancode can outbid SONY.Apart from SONY, The two big fish, STAR and Viacom18 are also in the race then it's Game Over for SONY......, (Khatam, bye bye, tata, Goodbye, gaya )
Fancode might wait and watch. Like SA Rights with STAR or PSL with Sony, they might join whoever wins the rights. Only problem for them is Sports18 where they won't share with othersSTAR & Viacom not required, Now Fancode can outbid SONY.
First , let's see indian broadcaster bid for SL/PAK/WI/NZ rights.Apart from SONY, The two big fish, STAR and Viacom18 are also in the race then it's Game Over for SONY......, (Khatam, bye bye, tata, Goodbye, gaya )
Don't compare Viacom18 with NEO, NEO was financially not so strong but we all know who owns Viacom18 and what's their strategy, they acquire so much sporting events rights other than Cricket where NEO lacks. I just hope that Viacom18 acquire F1 and WSBK rights. F1 already have huge fan base in India where as WSBK is more interesting than MotoGP nowadays. But Viacom18 is waisting their money with NBA which is not so much popular among Indian audience and also it's timing is not suitable.First , let's see indian broadcaster bid for SL/PAK/WI/NZ rights.
Last time, none bid for these rights, last minute, Sony get the rights for lesser price.
Now also, i don't have any hope with viacom, they had lot of opportunity like india tour of bangladesh, zim cricket, NZ rights etc, none they bid for the rights, Viacom waiting for BCCI rights, if they didn't get it, they will close their 90% of sports channels. Viacom is newer version of NEO sports
