Should Sports Networks have Regional Channels?

The reason Star Sports Marathi and Bangla failed was not because of the name just launching them as ESPN Marathi or Bangla will not make them a success

You didn't get what I said. What I said was if they ever relaunch in failing market. They can do it under a new identity.

Totally agreed. So many Star Sports 1 channels. Doesn't make sense at all. It's not that they have multiple channels for every language. Star Sports Tamil, Star Sports Hindi, Star Sports Kannada etc. would suffice. Star Sports 1, 2, 3 and ESPN 1 & 2 (in place of Select Channels) along with their HD counterparts would be excellent.
Moreover, they should let their Indian team handle Star Sports channels while ESPN channels should be handled by their original team in the US. They can push all their IPL, BCCI, PKL, PBL, ISL, ICC content on Star Sports channels, while exclusively dedicating EPL, Tennis and other premium rights (including programming) to ESPN along with shows like Sports Center. This would solve the problems for all the viewers.

Yes, there is an overdose of '1'. They are having more than 10 sports channels with '1' in the name. Over and above there is another channel with 'First' meaning the same.

Whole network is having a numerology overdose. They have a Super Hungama for Hungama. Star Gold 2 for Star Gold. They have an upcoming channel called Star Utsav 2.

True. I don't think there would ever be need for launching any regional sports channel with Star Sports 2 or 3 branding....numbering system should be dropped from their regional sports channels. Star Sports Select Branding is fine and its content strategy is also quite good as features international + few indian sports events too. ESPN should launch as a separate channel which can feature combination of niche international sports as well as indian + international chat/news shows on various sports
