It's interesting to know when BCCI rights were up for grabs. Sony wasn't a full time sports broadcaster. And Ten Sports (Zee) had sour relationship with BCCI. Neo's contract was terminated. Only Star ESPN and Doordarshan were left.

Point is. They incurred loses from cricket. Not other sporting events. They even tried fresh with Bundesliga, Euro 2012, Eredivisie and Bangladesh Premier League. But couldn't renew rights as big broadcasters with more resources like Star bought out the rights seeing success of events like Bundesliga. Mind you that these were before Internet era. So Neo had a role of making football popular in the country.

Because they are not stupid to invest most of their resources in one sports and sit idle for rest of the month. It's month of July.

Sony has the following sporting event this month :-

What does Star got? Only 3 Sports NBA, Wimbledon and F1 Racing. Best of MLB and ESPN FC is a nice addition. But that's it. Nothing more.

Edit: Star has got ONE Championship as well.

As a viewer we should care about variety. Not about who makes how much money.

Bro you are not getting the point.its not about who is making loss or profit .as a viewer we want we will watch variety and majority of sports .as a sports lover we want our country also become sports country .we are dominating in cricket thats great but if broadcaster will give importance to other sports we will also become gud in other sports also.we are not star or sony employees .we are indians and we shud stand and cheer every sportsperson who is representing our country.
