Star Movies Select HD will air animated film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ on 24 July, Sunday at 3 pm.
The film is an adaptation of the 1981 novel ‘Who Censored Roger Rabbit’, written by Gary Wolf.
Starring Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd and Joanna Cassidy, the film is a family-friendly tale set in the 1940s. A big studio star Roger Rabbit is troubled by rumours that his wife Jessica is having an affair.
An investigator is called to keep an eye on her, leading to hilarious results.
Decades after its release in 1988, the film continues to grab attention. Though the animated feature category was not created at the time of its release, it was nominated in six categories for The Academy Awards (Oscars).
It took home awards for visual effects, sound effects, film editing as well as a Special Achievement Award to animator Richard Williams.
‘Who framed Roger Rabbit’, other than its animation and futuristic styling featuring humans in the flesh collaborating with animated characters, is also a milestone in animation history.
It was not only one of the top-grossing films during the year of its release but also the most expensive film of that decade, taking $70 million to make.
