To offer new content to its viewers, Hindi GEC Star Plus is set to introduce three new primetime shows—two fiction shows and a non-fiction show—by the end of February 2017.

The first show up for launch is the global singing reality show ‘Dil Hai Hiindustani’, which is launching on 7 January and will air every Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm.

The show will feature Karan Johar, Shekhar Ravjiani, Shalmali Kholgade and Badshah on the judging panel. ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ will feature only Bollywood songs and is open to people from across the globe. It will replace ‘MasterChef India 5’, which culminated on 24 December.

Star Plus unveiled a teaser promo of its fiction property ‘Meri Durga’ on 25 December. To be launched in January 2017, the show dramatises the relationship between a father and his daughter and takes Haryana as its background.

Produced by Paperback Films, the series traces the journey of a girl and her struggle to fulfil her father’s dreams. ‘Meri Durga’ features Ananya Agarwal and Vicky Ahuja in important role. The channel is yet to finalise the release date and time slot for this weekday show.

Star Plus is also planning to launch a thriller tentatively titled ‘Nastik’ around February 2017. The show produced by Shoonya Square Production revolves around an atheist girl. The show is currently under production and the star cast is yet to be finalised.

The channel also had plans to launch two more fiction properties—‘Kya Haal Panchaal’ and ‘Thaali’. Their launch, however, has been postponed by a few months. ‘Kya Haal Panchaal’ is produced by Optimystix while ‘Thaali’ is produced by Sukesh Motwani, under Bodhi Tree Multimedia.

Star Plus to launch ‘Nastik’ in February

Star Plus is launching a slew of new shows in the New Year, starting with reality singing show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ in the weekend slot.

The show, which features Karan Johar, Badshah, Shekhar Ravijani and Shalmali Kholgade, will takeover the slot left vacant by ‘MasterChef India’. After this, Star Plus is gearing up to launch two other shows including ‘Meri Durga’, which kicks off in January and ‘Nastik’ in February. It has been described as a thriller, produced by Shoonya Square Production. It is based on an atheist girl.
With Star Plus’ sister channel, Life OK revamping its programming, it seems the flagship channel is also re-working on its programme strategy.
