They may launch new channels in future on that slot...

The main reason for launching Star Sports tamil first is that their group tamil channel Star Vijay and Star Vijay :hd is busy with its own schedule. So they are feeling bit difficult to telecast upcoming TNPL and other cricket matches in tamil. We have seen this issue during world cup also where some non-indian cricket matches are neglected in tamil feed while other regional channels like Asianet telecasted it in their own language feed.

So the reason for launch is they dont want to disturb Star Vijay and Vijay Super

Yes, Star Vijay and Star Vijay :hd  are not the right place for sports content. IPL, ISL, TNPL etc in Tamil feed will generate huge revenue for Star once CSK returns and every house owns an STB. Also the Ad revenue is super huge in TN.
