My STB is Y Series, and my STB Model Number is HS8101.

My TV is able to play both 1080p and 1080i.

From what I read online, 1080p seems to be a better option for faster moving pictures (less blurring/jarring).

But by default, the Sun Direct HD STB displays 1080i (I am not aware if it is 50Hz or 60Hz) when the STB Setting 'Video Mode' is set to AUTO. This is what I had always set it to.

However, in this STB Setting, under "Menu --> Display --> Video Mode", there are options to choose between:

1080i 50Hz
1080i 60Hz
1080p 50Hz
1080p 60Hz

I tried changing it to 1080p 60Hz, and my TV still displays the picture.

So, what should I choose?

1) Should I leave it as AUTO (displays picture in 1080i), or should I change it to 1080p 60Hz/50Hz?

2) I also read online that none of the DTHs really have the capability to broadcast pictures in 1080p, and that they broadcast only in 1080i. Is this true for Sun Direct as well?
Meaning, even if I select 1080p, will it be only the STB that will be actually converting the received picture, from 1080i to 1080p? And the received picture itself be only 1080i?

Please help me understand, so that I can choose the right option :)

1080i is the maximum resolution supported by the broadcasters (Not only in India, across the globe). It's actually not the DTH that doesn't have the capability, they do. That is why they provide the option of 1080p. As and when broadcasters start providing 1080p, DTH operators would readily support it. So for now, even if we keep the STB resolution at 1080p, we would be getting 1080i only, as the STB circuit doesn't really have the capability to perform such a complex up-scaling. BTW, this was discussed before as well, here.
SunDirect HD is not 1080p
