MUMBAI: Direct-to-home (DTH) service provider Sun Direct’s focus during the soccer World Cup is on adding subscribers through a special campaign. Speaking to TelevisionPost.com, Sun Direct CEO Mahesh Kumar said, “We expect around 100,000 new subscribers in a post-vacation month, which is usually a dull month for DTH new connections.” The offers target both new and existing subscribers.

“We have three offers. New customers will get to view the Fifa 2014 World Cup on Sony Six for free during this season, when they buy a new connection. Existing subscribers who recharge for six months and more can also view the soccer World Cup for free. Moreover, subscribers can buy the Fifa World Cup as an add-on for Rs 39, whereby they will be able to watch the matches for the entire tournament period.”

Talking about the importance of sports, Kumar said that Sun Direct offers all the major sports channels on its platform. “Even the basic pack has a decent spread of sports channels. With one event or the other taking place all around the year, sporting events are a big driver for customer acquisitions.

This is especially true during major events like the World Cup, IPL, etc.” In terms of marketing activities around the soccer World Cup, Kumar said that the company is running customer communications on all fronts, ATL, BTL, digital comprising TV, radio, posters, leaflets, web blogs, etc. The communication will be around the Fifa World Cup 2014.

“We are also intensifying the communication on our info channel to highlight the offers to our existing subscribers.”
