The DTH operator, however, said that the services of affected subscribers would be restored in the next two days.

This is the second time the service of the DTH operator has been disrupted. Earlier in March during the middle of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Tata Sky’s service disruption due to signal testing had affected 20,000 subscriber. Tata Sky was better prepared this time by running scrolls informing the subscribers about the technology upgrade.

Tata Sky is spending Rs 900 crore (Rs 9 billion) on upgrading its set-top boxes (STBs) from MPEG 2 to MPEG 4 to carry more channels. The company has changed around six million STBs and spent $24 on each of them. Also read:

They have changed 6 million STBs. So does that mean all mpeg2 boxes have now been replaced with mpeg4? If I am not mistaken, the target for replacement was 6 million boxes.
