I think they analyse amount per month subscribers are paying them.. and then they reduce their monthly bill. If you don't want cancel your any packages.. then you have to give a missed call to tata sky. That's it.

But what are the conditions to drop? I mean how does tata sky know which users to keep channels and which to drop?
They have some sort of analysis which keep tabs on user's viewing patterns.

Big broadcasters like Star thinks HD is premium (?) and charge ₹19 every HD channel.

Tata Sky is very smart. It is way to increase its own profit instead.

Suppose customer has Rs.500 balance and is using 4qty Rs.20 channels + 2qty Rs.10 channels + 150ncf = Rs.250 per month * 2 = 500(approx)

Calculation = Rs.260(ncf for 2months)+Rs.40(20% of Rs.100 *2 months (paid channels share)) = Rs.300 out of Rs.500 goes in tata sky pocket.

Now tata sky drops 2 Rs.20 & 1 Rs.10 channels . Only Rs.50+150= 200 now this will last 2.5 months.
After change calculation= Rs.325(ncf of 2.5month) + 25(20% of Rs.125 * 2 months(paid channels share)) = Rs.350 out of Rs.500 goes in tata sky pocket.

So tata sky profit is increased 13.33% by above example.
Though many customers by subscribe back but many would stop it as they might not have know the actual cost of channel. Also its perfect timing to unsubscribe as all fresh programming feed is already stopped so no addiction.
I think this will hurt entertainment channels the most.

TRAI should float Consultation paper , why such practice are allowed in industry. Volunteeringly dropping channel from subsciber account, just citing user doesnt watch those channel, which itself invading privacy of user???

@saketk11 this is not invasion of privacy. An algo is made to work to find what channels and what customers.

They are informing customers 15day in advance. If customers wants no change then he can opt for it by giving missed call.
Also ultimately its broadcasters who are losing money. Why should trai stand for them when they cant agree to trai recent orders.
Eventuall customers gonna gain coz he ll subscribe back to only those channels which he really misses.

Does anyone have an idea of what happened to this news? Did Tata Sky cut channels or packs? It is already June 22 and several publications went with this story but no one seems to have updated it.
