Of the 40 Mbps (megabits per second) available on each DBS satellite transponder, just 23 Mbps is used for the actual audio and video signals. The remaining 17 Mbps is used for forward error correction information. Choice of a suitable FEC algorithm ensures that DBS can work reliably with the system's standard small receiving antennas. Without FEC, these small antennas could otherwise only receive a marginal quality signals.

Low level fec TP will get more space but easily affeced by rain. D2H has 54 mhz so 2/3 fec needed. airtel has 36mhz 3/4 fec enough. but tata uses 5/6 fec.
u know that tata is the only operator using 7/8 fec for dvbs/mpeg2.
Tata always use lower fec than others.

so d2h tp
s.r 44000*3=132mbps
(for channel 88 mbps+
for fec 44 mbps)

So d2h uses 33% bw for FEC only....

What's the reason they use so high bw for FEC higher than all other DTH? 54 MHz tp???

dishtv asiasat dvbs2 54 mhz TP also use 2/3 fec. i think 2/3 fec is common for 54 mhz tp.

most common fec are:
dvbs 36mhz 5/6fec (17%)
dvbs 54mhz 3/4fec (25%)
dvbs2 36mhz 3/4fec (25%)
dvbs2 54mhz 2/3fec (33%)

If TS is using 5/6 fec then it should affect signal level which may further affect PQ? :huh

tatasky always using lower fec than others. may be strong signal & low bit error rate.

this problem may be negligible. bcoz insat 4a is dedicated indian satellite and nearest satellite also it has good RF signal.Low BER. so tatasky people always using lower fec than others.

Dedicated indian sat??? can u plz explain?? are all others dth using non dedicated for india sat???
