A major tug of war is happening between two GECs (General Entertainment Channels) over revisiting 'Chandrakanta', the fantasy drama of the 80s.
While Ekta Kapoor is making the show for the channel that recently wrapped up 'Chakravartin Samrat Ashoka',
producer Nikhil Sinha is also working on the same story for the channel that aired 'Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev'. Work on both the shows started long ago. While Ekta is yet to commence casting, Nikhil has already locked his protagonist.
This clash brings to mind two similar incidents in the past. A popular GEC was forced to scrap its ambitious project on Emperor Ashoka after its rival released a teaser of the same show. On another occasion, a relatively new player had to scrap a show based on the popular film, 'Bajirao Mastani', after releasing its teaser when they realised that their rival channel was ahead of them with the same concept.
