UTV Action, the Disney India’s movie channel featuring Hollywood action movies dubbed in Hindi and Bollywood action movies, is upping its international content. The channel has recently acquired the rights of ‘The Mermaid’. The movie will be premiered on January 26 on the channel, dubbed in Hindi.
The movie is a Chinese-Hong Kong science fantasy romantic comedy film directed, co-written and co-produced by Stephen Chow. It tells the story of a playboy businessman (Deng Chao) who falls in love with a mermaid (Lin Yun) who was sent to assassinate him.
Vijay Subramaniam, the VP of media networks at Disney India, commented: “We have got the rights to ‘The Mermaid’. We are going to premiere that in India on 26 January on UTV Action. Going forward, we will acquire more and more international action films such as ‘The Mermaid’. We have a fair catalogue of Bollywood films. We constantly look for interesting dubbed South Indian films”.
To recall, the channel earlier premiered two of Chow’s films namely ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ and ‘Journey to the West’. In addition to that, the channel also provides content from Marvel and more recently, Star Wars.
