Sony should have gone for TV rights not happy with Sports 18 who is disaster in broadcasting live Cricket matches.

India Tour of Ireland, WIPL & T10 Quality of live streaming on tv was horirble.

Sony is class among Star & Viacom 18 for television broadcasting clear picture can be seen đź’Ż , England vs New Zealand Series.
What specifically you didn’t like on those series (Ind vs Ire, WIPL, T10)?

Busy all through today, couldn’t see the news. As expected, there is no stopping the Ambani family from getting everything they want. But I think they are spending too much money on getting big sports rights and too little on naming and launching channels. With only one Sports18 channel and too much focus on JioCinema, their priorities are in the wrong direction as far as broadcasting is concerned.

JioCinema needs to be renamed immediately, more Sports18 channels need to be launched on DTHs and Viacom18 can consider a name change as well since its global parent has become Paramount. There is no point of owning the BCCI rights and IPL digital rights (+ Mumbai Indians as well as MI Women and MI Cape Town) if there aren’t adequate channels to broadcast these events.

With Viacom 18 winning the rights, Jio Cricket channels on Jio TV and Jio TV+ might be discontinued or they might use it only for domestic matches.

JioCinema needs no renaming.

More channels will be launched now that they’ve got BCCI rights. You need constant programming to keep viewers engaged. BCCI media rights comes handy in that aspect.

No one cares about parent company name. Everyone is going to call it Jio.

Just because Star fumbled to monetise the digital rights doesn’t mean Jio will fail too. They already made 4x the digital revenue in IPL 2023 edition than Hotstar did.
I think you forgot that Jio airing BCCI all International and domestic matches from last 5 years, they're acquiring rights not for Profit/Revenue. It's for their parent organization other business expanding.
Advertising community will appreciate Jio when they look back on who created the inventory in the digital medium.

What I heard from broadcaster source months ago, KSR too mention some way true. Actually both Star/Sony knows won't win rights and not interested on Auction. BCCI made big drama to attract New players against Viacom18 bidding that's why auction delayed many weeks, eventually nobody shows interest, clearly BCCI too known Viacom18 going to win both Streaming/TV media Rights.

It was only for Jio users

Star has give up for TV rights, still i can't believe

JioCinema everyone knew that he would take the digital rights at any cost..
