Well friends, first of all, this forum has been very helpful and I thank you all for that.
a bit of history here and it’s a bit of longish post!! I am currently using D2H connection for I guess last 3 – 4 years. When it was setup I got v7000 hdw stb and rf remote. When I checked the remote I noticed recording button on it. I did not understand how it worked. So I called customer care (cc) and they said D2H does not offer any recording facility period. Call closed.
But then I with some experiments figured out that recording was indeed working. All I needed to do was to connect a fat formatted pen drive to the USB port and hit Record button on remote. So I called again and told them that I have recording facility on my stb. They again said recording facility has been discontinued. Then I kept quite forever and just kept on enjoying what my stb offered always.
Sometime ago I noticed that the software auto updated to I guess v2.47, since then the recording is all a hit-n-miss game. Sometimes it works flawlessly as if there’s no issue, other time it appears to have recorded it but during play back on the same stb it gives some authenticate failure message for a fraction of second and closes. This includes recordings done prior to software update, some of them now fail. So I guess v2.47 has goofed up something!

I raised a ticket and the cc assigned it to someone who told me that v7000 has been discontinued and to get the recording facility I must upgrade to android stream box. I asked don’t u have recording facility in your current HD box, he said NO. He blindly closed the ticket. But when I check https://www.d2h.com/set-top-box/hd-rf it does say recording facility available. If I correctly understand Dish TV and D2H have some alliance for quite some time now and now they have one single box for both.
So I wish to know if current D2H HD box offers recording? I can simply consider switching to that while rest of my connection remains the same, just they change the stb.
Any help, guidance or advice will be great.
Sadly I have been trying to get in touch with D2H as well as Airtel (I am also checking with Airtel as I know they offer recording but with I guess some fee every month, that’s ok), but no one is responding at all, as if they simply don’t care. Otherwise I will have to simply go for d2h stream unnecessarily. All in all I am looking at hd stb that offers 1) recording and 2) 1080p
