if I am not mistaken there current sat life will expire in near future(1-2years)?? they may be keeping gsat as backup to switch because they are in the same posistion..

Insat 4a was launched in December 2005.
What is the life of insat 4a? 10 years?
So in December 2015 it will expire if I am not wrong

The life span of insat4a is 12 yrs .But ts contract with isro is only 10 yrs
