Just weeks after Japanese broadcaster ‘NHK World Japan’ ceased transmission of its Free to Air (channel) ‘NHK World TV’ on Direct to Home (DTH) platform’s Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV, Hinduja Group owned NXT Digital on its website has claimed that the Ministry of Information Broadcasting has cancelled the licenses of ‘NHK World TV’ and ‘NHK World Premium’.
“Please note that the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled downlinking permission for the two TV channels with immediate effect viz. “NHK World Premium” and “NHK World TV”. Till further notice these channels will not be available on NXTDigital networks,” reads a scroll live on NXT Digital and InDigital website.
DreamDTH currently can’t independently verify the scroll put on NXT Digital’s website since the Ministry’s portal is yet to reflect any such change. We have reached out to NHK World Japan for a comment on the matter.
For the unversed, NHK World TV and NHK World Premium in India are downlinked by Noida Software Technology Park Ltd which also earlier used to distribute the channels. The firm however has been involved in liquidation process for quite some time now. Further details and confirmation about the cancellation is awaited from the Ministry’s end.
