The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has today cancelled three TV licenses which include two licenses from ‘The Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Limited’ and one from ‘Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited’, first spotted by DreamDTH.
The ministry has cancelled the three licenses with the reason for all cancellations provided as ‘not required’. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd’s (ZEEL) license named Zee ME has been cancelled. The license was granted to the broadcaster in 2018.
The Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Limited’s 2 licenses namely Mathrubhumi News North and Mathrubhumi News South have been cancelled by the Ministry. Both licenses were granted on 25 February 2011.
The cancellation leaves the number of permitted private satellite TV channels at 907 according to the Ministry’s database. The number of cancelled TV channels as of 30 November 2019 stands at 290.

DreamDTH had earlier a month ago reported the cancellation of Sony Pictures Network India’s (SPN) five licenses namely SAB Punjabi, SAB Tamil, Sony Pix 2 HD, Sony Pix-2 and Six 2. We had also reported the cancellation of 17 licenses by the Ministry which included Zee Media’s 4 four licenses 1 Chennai, 1 Delhi, 1 Mumbai and 1 Kolkata granted last year in September.
