MIB greenlights launch of TV9 Tamil, ND24: Newsdaily24.in, and Channel 36 UP/UK

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) today updated its database with the renaming of multiple existing satellite TV channels. MIB has given the green light to TV9 Network to launch TV9 Tamil apart from nod for ND: Newsdaily24.in and Channel 36 UP/UK.

TV9 Network held ‘News9’ license has been renamed to TV9 Tamil. The broadcaster had last year shuttered down News9 to focus on a digital-only English News channel post which the TV license remained idle. The broadcaster has been testing TV9 Tamil on multiple MSOs in Tamil Nadu for quite some time now.

TV9 had got the license initially on 30th November 2007 to operate News9 with permission to uplink and downlink and operate in Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, English, and other Indian languages.

MIB has also renamed Naman Broadcasting’s ‘Live Today’ license to ‘ND24 – Newsdaily24.in’. The license was initially granted on 10th February 2014 to Naman Broadcasting to operate ‘Prabhatam Lifeline’ under the ‘NEWS’ category. The license was subsequently renamed multiple times and known as ‘BTV News’. ‘Sadhana Aryan News’, ‘Sadhana News’, and ‘Live Today – Tez Najar Sahi Khabar’. The company has to uplink and downlinking permission to operate in Hindi, English, as well a few regional languages.

MIB has also renamed Bhole Baba Real Estate Developer’s ‘INH 24*7’ license to ‘Channel 36 UP/UK’. The license was initially granted on 26th February 2014 to operate in Hindi, English, and all other Indian scheduled languages under the ‘NEWS’ category with uplinking and downlinking permission.

The license has been renamed multiple times and known as ‘NSN News’, ‘Nav Jagriti’, ‘Indian Crime’, and ‘INH 24*7’ at different occasions.

MIB yesterday updated its database with the cancellation of Zee Entertainment’s ‘Zee ETC Bollywood’ satellite TV channel license. The cancellation comes almost 4 months after ZEEL pulled the plug on its trade bollywood channel on 17th October 2020.
