Broadcasting watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today released the “Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report” for the October-December 2019 quarter. Tata Sky, has continued to be the leading DTH operator by subscriber base retaining the biggest market share among DTH operators.
Tata Sky’s market share which stood at 31.61% at the end of September, 2019, has risen to 31.80% at the end of December, 2019. Dish TV, which is the second largest DTH operator in India by subscriber base has further seen an erosion in subscriber base with market share down to 30.55% after the end of December, 2019, down from 31.23% at the end of September, 2019.
Airtel Digital TV’s market share which stood at 23.39% at the end of September 2019, stood at 23.31% at the end of December, 2019. Sun Direct’s market share which stood at 13.78% at the end of September, 2019, stood at 14.35% at the end of December, 2019.
TRAI further noted that pay DTH had attained a total active subscriber base of around 69.98 million in QE December, 2019, up from 69.3 million in QE September, 2019. This is in addition to the subscribers of the DD Free Dish.
Post the introduction of the new regulatory framework of Broadcasting
and Cable TV Services, since March, 2019 the subscription figure of the total
active subscribers includes inactive and temporarily suspended subscribers for not more than the last 90 days are counted instead of the last 120 days which was counted before March, 2019.
