Direct to Home (DTH) operator Tata Sky is all set to increase the new connection cost of its HD Zapper connection which will make a new HD connection costlier than a new SD connection. DreamDTH has learned that the company is going to increase the price for Tata Sky HD set-top boxes from Tuesday, 1st September.
The intimation sent by Tata Sky to its dealers yesterday shows that the new Tata Sky HD connection which is currently being sold at Rs 1,499 will receive a price hike of Rs 100 effective today and its cost will be increased to Rs 1,599 on both trade and non-trade channels.
However, this price revision will only affect offline buyers who book their connection through local dealers as the company will continue to sell the HD boxes online for Rs 1,499 through its website.
This will be the 2nd price hike in the last 6 months, earlier Tata Sky had increased the cost of both HD and SD boxes by Rs 100 in March this year. Unlike Tata Sky, Airtel is selling its HD set-top box at as low as Rs. 1,300 while Dish TV and d2h on the other hand, are selling their HD set-top box bundled with 1-month subscription starting at Rs. 1,590 and Rs 1,599 respectively. Sun Direct HD box is costliest among all with a price tag of Rs 1,999.
