The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has disposed of Zee Entertainment’s broadcasting petition against Kal Cables for its cancellation of license marking it as premature.

The tribunal heard the counsels for Zee Entertainment and Kal Cables who had appeared on advance notice. It noted that the preliminary objections of Kal Cables had merits. It said that Zee Entertainment had already shared the audit report dated 21 November 2019 with the cable operator on 19 December 2019.

TDSAT noted if the response of the cable operator doesn’t satisfy the broadcaster and the cable operator is found acting against the provisions of the regulation, then the broadcaster shall be at liberty to act in accordance with the law.

Disposing of the petition, TDSAT Chairperson Hon’ble Mr. Justice Shiva Kirti Singh noted, ” The petition is presently found to be premature. The same is dismissed accordingly.”

Several cable operators in Tamil Nadu had reportedly removed Zee Tamil from the packages of viewers despite them having paid for it. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had also recently show caused the cable operator asking it as to why it shouldn’t take any action against the cable operator for violating the regulations.
