Weeks after the submarine Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) from Chennai to Andaman & Nicobar Islands was launched, the residents of Andaman & Nicobar Islands have got another gift with Direct to Home (DTH) operator Tata Sky adding ‘DD Port Blair’ onboard its platform this evening on channel number 1994.
DD Port Blair is now the lone Andaman & Nicobar Islands specific channel available on any DTH platform. The channel is available on Tata Sky’s platform on channel number 1994. DD Port Blair will be telecasting programs between 4 PM to 7 PM from Monday to Friday.
The Education Department in Andaman & Nicobar Islands since April has allocated a one hour slot in the evening on DDK which broadcasts respective 01236 subjects like mathematics, economics, science, business, etc.
DD Port Blair has a 1 hour educational content between 4-5 PM titled ‘DD Classroom’, Entertainment program at 5-6 PM, Dweep Darpan News at 6-6:30 PM, and another Entertainment program at 6:30-7 PM before the black out between 7 PM-4 PM.
The addition has made today a big day for satellite communication in Andaman & Nicobar Islands with Tata Sky said to have more than 20,000 subscribers in Andaman & Nicobar Islands as per DJ Venkatesh, a correspondent tracking North and Middle Andaman.
Apart from DD Port Blair, local Cable TV operators in Andaman & Nicobar Islands are also broadcasting classes for students in the morning with a two-hour slot.
