12 Channels Converted To MPEG4 on Tatasky

Is converting all channels into MPEG4 in a single go possible technically? I'm asking this because Tata Sky is converting channels in installments. Why didnt they convert them in a single batch? Is it not possible or does it have any drawbacks?

The answer lies in the pattern they have followed in doing the conversion in terms of the types / genres of channels being converted. Have a look at the channels remaining still in mpeg2:

They started off with the easier to migrate regions, then did English channels and so on, proceeding phase wise. Now only the most popular Hindi GEC, Hindi movie, Hindi news, sports, kids, etc. channels remain. They have left the potentially larger impact channels (which are viewed by potentially the largest number of customers) for the end. This is to ensure that migration awareness has been spread to the maximum number of customers and they have got the opportunity to swap their boxes and do not get completely blacked out before the final instalment of mpeg4 conversion.
