Buddy, Disney-Star or any broadcaster takes into account many factors while deciding to launch or shutdown a channel or even expand / shrink content offerings. It is not a simple thing but lot of calculations / research goes into it.
I do not watch regional language channels of any broadcaster barring punjabi channels but regarding Star Gold Select i can confidently state that it is being managed quite well by Disney-Star and airs lot many mainstream as well as meaningful / critically acclaimed bollywood as well as selected dubbed movies & serves the purpose of catering to the niche as well as mass audience which likes watching such films but same find less space on their main hindi movie channels bcoz of lower ratings attracted by them.
Star Gold Select used to acquire rights of many more of such critically acclaimed or independent/ indie movies but stopped the same around 2017 or 2018 , reason being the it won't have been a financially viable decision as these kind of movies attract very less ratings thus not managing to attract advertisers. They basically undertook a smart step of cost cutting rather than simply shutting down the channel itself
Star Gold 2 does air many new bollywood films and certain films r even premiered on it like the recent case of Good Luck Jerry. Star Gold is preferred destination for premiering new movies as it is the prime flagship channel and ad rate slots cost more on it, however soon after premiere these movies r shown on Star Gold 2, Star Utsav Movies and UTV movies too
