Breaking 9 New Channels Launching By Star Network w.e.f. March 15

What is the benefit behind launching of many HD channels. Star is unable to distribute them.
Its been a long back Star Kiran HD launched and still its not available on any dth.

Exciting news! It was long overdue.

• Finally, Disney Star is launching Disney Channel HD in 2023 (after Viacom18 launched Nick HD+ in 2015 and Turner launched Cartoon Network HD+ in 2018). With this launch, the 3 major American kids networks will have an HD presence in India.
• The UTV brand is more or less dead, so it makes sense to replace it with the Star brand. There have been no Indian feature films produced and/or distributed by UTV Motion Pictures since 2017.
• Tamil and Telugu markets have much greater viewership than Bangla and Marathi markets, so I can understand why they would want to have dedicated HD feeds for Star Sports 1 in Tamil and Telugu.
• Whoever is interested in English entertainment is better off with OTT streaming services these days. So, the end of Star World is not a big loss.

I am still unsure if UTV Channel Name Branding is being dropped by Disney-Star bcoz of their own decision to bring these channels under Star Branding or is it due to some contractual thing wherein they were allowed to use it only for certain time period and later hand the same again to Mr. Ronnie Screwala. I think UTV branding had its own appeal which is why all these years UTV Movies and UTV Action managed to get extremely good ratings and have had great following among the audience.

Star World should have been continued, i again state this English GEC channels can still very much succeed on TV if they adopt correct content strategy and cater to both emerging + evolved audience. I would have been extremely happy if SD feed of the channel would have aired mix of popular old and new fiction/non fiction shows while HD feed could have aired popular + niche shows...what i meant to say is airing shows like American Idol, New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother as well as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Game Of Thrones, Room 101 etc..

Hope that Disney Channel HD will also air International Cartoon Shows too

Yes UTV is an appealing brand as they delivered a bunch of blockbusters once. Even had a small structure It became popular in TV too through Bindass and movie channels. Disney's aquisition changed the fate. Disney India's poor management stunted its growth.. After the arrival of Star, UTV got completely sidelined. When it comes to Star's case, Disney India is a small player, so it feel like Star bought and merged Disney into them. As Star has a best executive team from the Fox era, they took control and Disney India - Star is going well unlike UTV time.

Ronnie Screwvala has already re-entered the media business with RSVP Movies. So it is unlikely that he will go back to UTV and reintroduce it. It's a closed chapter for him now.

Even Big magic aired Shaka laka boom boom serial some time back, i think now Star/Disney India completely stopped TV Broadcasting syndication of UTV Contents except Digital Rights for Netflix. UTV produced many Regional language mega TV serials, Shows and Theatrical Unreleased movies but Star India thrown to dustbin without airing on their own channel and OTTs.

You can pretty much expected this to be converted into Star Sports Tamil 2 HD. Point is to launch channels and not distribute properly despite being the biggest broadcaster in the country. For eg. Star Sports 1 Marathi never disturbed. Now it's shutdown for Star Sports 1 Tamil HD.

1. Vijay Super HD Tamil Movies n Old Vijay Tv re-run shows.
2. Star Gold 2 HD - Hindi Movies same as its SD version SG 2
3. Star Gold Romance - Hindi Movies UTV movies .. Only Brand name changing.
4. Star Gold Thrills - Hindi Action Movies from Hollywood & Tollywood dubbed in Hindi as UTV Action. Brand Changing.
5. Disney Channel HD - Kids Channel same as Its SD Version.
6. Star Movies Select - English Movies Just as its HD Channel it'll be in SD .
