I have not given a single flop film: Anushka Sharma

Every actor craves for good scripts and roles and Band Baaja Baaraat sensation Anushka Sharma has no qualms in accepting her craving for it. But seems like her deeply-rooted faith revolves aroundYashraj banner only.

Getting used to of big hits and big roles at an initial stage of her career, Anushka gets miffed for being labelled for her association with Yashraj Banner. "I don't work for production houses. I only work for good scripts and roles. If you follow my career graph you will find that I have not given a single flop yet in my career. I am proud of it. I am doing films from this banner because of the fact that I am getting good scripts from them. I will keep doing that till they offer me good roles and films as they have the maximum understanding and respect for my talent. You can not streamline yourself to such a narrow-way by sticking to just one prod house or even one film director."

Needless to add, the favourite actor of Yash camp has got one film which surprisingly comes from a different banner. "I am doing Vishal Bharadwaj's Matru ki Biwi Ka Mann Dola which is a different banner," she adds. Talking about her smashing chemistry with Ranveer she says, "People do talk about our chemistry and I just need to say that we are not calculating our relationship. The kind of similarity we shared in the film BBB is sort of similar but not entirely similar in real life as well. There was definitely no overt description of love in the film and similarly in the real life. Ours is very strange relationship. There are times when we can't stand each other; at times we are on back slapping terms. Its very informal relationship and bit complicated as well."

Not all's well between Kareena, Shah Rukh?

After the release of RA.One, there was news that Shah Rukh Khan is keen to make a sequel to the hero flick.

Shah Rukh's RA.One seems to have done business enough at the box office to enourage him to make a sequel. If sources are to be believed, Kareena Kapoor, we hear, isn't too keen to be a part of it, and this hasn't gone down too well with the Khan.

If a sequel to RA.One is in the offing, we're told that Kareena won't be a part of it and that Shah Rukh is planning to rope someone else.

We are told that scriptwriters have already begun work on a RA.One sequel, and SRK is adamant to take the franchise forward.

Warner Bros. to release J Edgar on 20 January

Warner Bros. Pictures will release Leonardo DiCaprio starrer J. Edgar on 20 January.

Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film explores the personal and public life and relationships of a man who could distort the truth as easily as he upheld it during a life devoted to his own idea of justice.

Edgar Hoover was one of the most powerful men in America. As head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years, he would stop at nothing to protect his country. Through eight presidents and three wars, Hoover waged battle against threats, often bending the rules to keep his countrymen safe. He was a man who placed great value on secrets and was as guarded in his private life as he was in his public one, allowing only a small and protective inner circle into his confidence.

The film also stars Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and Judi Dench.

J. Edgar has been produced by Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Robert Lorenz, with Tim Moore and Erica Huggins serving as executive producers.

Tezz is a poor film with disaster written all over it

MUMBAI: As the title suggests, Tezz is inspired by the Hollywood film Speed, which in turn was inspired by Hollywood film Runaway Train and the Japanese film, The Bullet Train. Some inspiration is also taken from popular American TV series 24, but that is where the comparison ends.

Producer: Ratan Jain.
Director: Priyadarshan.
Cast: Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Boman Irani, Zayed Khan, Sameera Reddy, Mohan Lal

The theme was picked up by BR Films to make The Burning Train which, though being a novel idea for the Indian audience at that time and boasting of a mammoth star cast, bombed badly.

Tezz comes at a time when English movies are dubbed in various Indian languages and the subject offers no novelty. What is more, the story is based on a faulty premise.

Ajay Devgn is an illegal immigrant in London but having married a UK citizen, Kangna Ranaut, he is expecting legal status soon. He is also a crusader for other illegal immigrants who he feels have come to UK seeking a brighter future and should not be sent back as the local authorities have been doing after raiding their hideouts.

In one such raid, Ajay Devgn manages to help Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan escape but he is taken away and despite his explanation that he was married to a citizen and was awaiting his papers, he is packed off to India. With a feeling that he has been denied an opportunity to make a life for himself, he decides to plant bombs on a passenger train and extort a huge ransom from the UK authorities! Now this is not the kind of story heroes are made of - or films.

It is not only the East India Company that an Indian has taken over; they also are the main thrust behind its police and railways. Once Devgn plants the bombs on the train with 500 passengers on board, London police needs to recall a just-retired cop, Anil Kapoor, to handle the case. The head of signal system on the railway is also an Indian, Boman Irani, and his pre-teen daughter is on the same train too (that is the emotion quotient in the film).

As the ransom demand is being complied with, Kapoor is busy chasing Devgn and his accomplices- Khan and Reddy- and Boman Irani negotiates with Ajay Devgn. When Kapoor is asked to come alone and deliver the ransom amount, he goes with a fleet of police cars with sirens blaring and cops in fluorescent jackets. Is he the best London police have? As the alternative ways to save the passengers are used, there is nothing that you have not seen in a number of films. As Zayed Khan and Sameera Reddy have been martyred in the cause of illegal Indian immigrants in UK and having got his ransom amount, Devgn decides to call off his threat and get back to his wife and the child she gave birth to in his absence. But Anil Kapoor has still to fulfil his obligation, which is to apprehend Ajay Devgn and send the message that crime may get you 10 million Euros but won't let you live to enjoy it!

The script is full of loop holes, lacks logic and is treated equally shoddily by Priyadarshan. Initially, exchanges between Indians and their British counterparts are in English which later turn to Hindi and those uncomfortable with English miss the very purpose behind the events to follow.

Music is out of sync and a Mallika Sherawat item number has been forced in as if censors wouldn't pass a film without one. If at all the film offers anything worth watching, it is two chase scenes, one with Sameera Reddy and the other with Zayed Khan. The cinematography is good. Boman Irani, Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan are passable; Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn disappoint. Kangana Ranaut has nothing much to do. Mohanlal playing a cameo as a cop escorting a criminal on the targeted train is wasted.

Tezz is a poor film with disaster written all over it.

Life Ki Toh Lag Gayi is one boring charade

Life Ki Toh Lag Gayi is an attempted comedy bringing together four characters, Kay Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, Pradhuman Singh and Manu Rishi with Neha Bhasin adding the glamour angle.

These four characters converge in Mumbai on their own agenda. Kay Kay Menon wants to avenge the murders of his parents. Manu Rishi is here to apprehend some Nigerian drug peddlers. Ranvir Shorey, a chef in UK, has returned to be with his lady love. Ajoy Ghosh is a wannabe rock star.

The four are expected to create laughter and regale the viewer; they do nothing of the sort and come up with one boring charade. Mumbai background is not exploited well.

The film has opened to a 'no audience no show' welcome.

'Ek Tha Tiger' likely to cross 200 crores mark

Trade analysts are anticipating that ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ will do business around 200 crores.

The reasons are many. It releases on 15th August. It can run successfully for one week, till Eid. No other major film is releasing in this period. The movie casts Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif together a long time after their separation. Plus, all Salman’s movies released during Eid have the track record of grossing a good collection.

Though director Kabir Khan disagrees he feels the story too matters, and Salman can only help him get a good opening day. He said, "I feel the film has stamina to run for a very long time. I hope the film goes way beyond the opening which is dependent on Salman. After that it is me and the film that I have made. I feel it has the strength to go a long way."

Girsih Wankhede, DGM of Cinemax India also hopes it will cross 200 crores mark. He said, “Ek tha Tiger is likely to cross 200 crores from India. Not only that the film will break and create many new records at the box-office." The highest ever grossing film in India is ‘3 id*ots’. It earned 300 crores.

Akash Saxena, CEO, of Big Cinemas said, “Ek Tha Tiger will be the biggest grosser, as it has the advantage of an extended weekend and high demand for the film.” It is likely to do well in overseas market too. A prominent Indian channel reported that all the tickets are sold out in Dubai, prior to one week of its release.

Salman too claimed that, when he said to the channel, “I’ve heard that no one’s getting tickets in Dubai. A week after the bookings opened, it is sold-out. This is nine days before the release of the film.” The rumor is some multiplexes are also trying to up the price of the tickets to cash on the buzz surrounding it. Salman’s previous movies ‘Ready’ and ‘Bodyguard’ were priced higher than their usual rate as well.

As one of Salman’s fan said, “I’ve already booked my tickets for the first show. There’s no rush now, but I don’t want to take any chances. I’m a huge Salman fan and I have always watched his movie first day, first show.”

The hype surrounding ETT is really massive. Fans are eagerly waiting for its release.

Kabir Khan says 'Ek Tha Tiger' is a complete package

9572.jpg

Director Kabir Khan is claiming ‘Ek Tha Tiger, is a complete movie. He was speaking at a news conference where Salman Khan was also present. He said, "There is not one USP of the film and I think that is the reason why people like the promo too. `Ek Tha Tiger` is a complete package film. It has the whole package of Salam-Katrina, action and Yash Raj productions."

When asked about his best shot from the movie he said, “It will take me at least a day to think and tell you my one favorite shot from the film. When the movie is not good, then it is easy to pick one best shot. But in a movie like `Ek Tha Tiger`, where every shot is so good, one cannot tell which is the best one.” His last hit movie was ‘New York’ which was a big hit. Both the director and Salman were seen wearing ‘Being Tiger’ T-shirts.

Salman on his part was candid about Katrina’s performance in the movie. He said , "Sonia in `Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ was okay, Anushka in `Yuvvraaj’ was good but Zoya in `Ek Tha Tiger` is too good." Their last movie together was in ‘Yuvvraaj’, four years back. The actress could not attend the conference as she was not well.

‘Ek tha Tiger’ is a romantic thriller. It tells the story of a rouge scientist at Trinity College, Dublin. He is suspected of selling missile technology to Pakistan. To find out this plot, RAW agent Salman is send by the Indian Government to Ireland. While going after the culprit he falls in love for the sweet Zoya (played by Katrina Kaif), who is the scientist’s assistant. Thereafter a roller-coaster ride from Dublin to Turkey, then to Cuba, Kazakhstan and Chile takes place.

The movie has several foreign actors too. Troi Ge is an ISI agent. Steven Dasz plays a police officer of Pamplona. The film also has Lisa Byrne and Sarah Conn. Bella Boyd as a Shotgun Killer.

The movie is already thought to be a hit as Salman’s fans feel they are connected to him with their heart and not mind. Trade analysts are thinking it would do business of around 200 crores. The movie release has also received an NOC from Pakistan. In Dubai the ticket prices have already increased. The tiger is leaping high. Hope it maintains that over the next week.

Salman Khan the highest paid actor in Bollywood?

After the success of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Salman Khan has become the king of box-office. 100 crore stamp has been affixed on him and filmmakers are desperate to get his dates. After doing back to back action oriented movies, he is now inclined towards romantic movies. He has been flooded with film offers and makers are ready to pay him any amount he demands. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai who worked with Salman Khan in ‘Yuvraaj’ is ready to sign him with a whopping amount of Rs 100 crore for an action film.

He has two films on hand now. He is working on one of the film and will work on the other film with Salman next year. "I am returning to direction. I have two films... one with Salman that I will start next year and other I will start shooting this year," Ghai told.

After the failure of ‘Yuvvraaj’, Ghai repented that he cast Salman in a romantic thriller and not in an action packed film.

"After Wanted he has emerged as the new action hero. Audience likes to see him in this zone. It would be foolish on my part to make romantic kind of films with him. We made a mistake by casting him in Yuvvraj," Ghai said.

"I have signed Salman for my film. Considering Salman's superstar status and the love that he has got for doing action films, I would be making an action-masala kind of movie. He is Superman Salman. We are working on the script," he added.

"He has other commitments. So once he is done with all of them. We will start working next year," Ghai said.

It is also heard that producer Ramesh Taurani has signed Salman Khan with an whopping price of Rs 100 crore. A source informs, “As expected Ek Tha Tiger has sent the cash registers ringing and many filmmakers have been seen visiting Salman’s residence to make a film with him. However, Taurani, who has earlier worked with Salman and has had him signed since the past couple of years, is very keen that they do a film together."

"A couple of days back, he met Salman and offered him Rs. 100 crore for a film. Taurani is aware that the actor’s last three films have done business near to Rs. 150 crore net and that’s why he is ready to take the gamble,” the source was quoted by the tabloid.

Taurani however denied the price quoted, “Salman is already signed with me and this is not the right figure. He will be doing a film in 2013 with us and details are being worked out.”

I am new age Yash Chopra heroine: Anushka Sharma

The white chiffon sari is the trademark of a Yash Chopra heroine but Anushka Shrama, who stars alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif in director's next 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', says she will mostly be seen in a white ganji.

Anushka, who in her own words, plays the role of a "very hardworking and ambitious girl", says the white sari does not go with her character in the film.

"I know that there is something like an image about Yashji's heroines but maybe I am the new age Yash Chopra heroine. There is going to be a white chiffon sari but I am the white ganji girl and that's what I am going to be wearing," Anushka told in an interview.

"My role is of a girl of 21-year-old girl who is very hard working and ambitious. She is working for Discovery channel and is trying to make a documentary. I don't fit into the saree image because of the character but she has the same emotions so it is a Yash Chopra love," says Anushka.

The 'Band Baaja Baarat' star, who landed her first role at the age of 19 opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Yashraj banner's 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', says it was great to be directed by the 'King of Romance' in his directorial comeback. Chopra is directing 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' after a gap of eight years.

"I would have had an incomplete career if I did not have a film by Yash Chopra because everyone called me an Yash Chopra heroine as I was launched by Yash Raj Films. I was doing lot of YRF films but I was not actually a Yash Chopra heroine till I did this film," says Anushka.
