Well... Its not true 5.1. It is supposed to come this way:

Center Speaker - Voice
Front Speakers - Music
Rear/Surround speakers - Special effects as done by sound engineer/DTS engineer

EDIT: But voice is coming in Center and front speakers along with music... and surround sound is not effective(I can barely feel that)

I can hear sound in surround speakers and as you said voice is coming in center and front speakers

I think they may not be able to fix this issue unless they telecast HD content all the time. Because switching between non hd and hd audio will create volume issue. They might be managing that with some technique which is in turn 3.1 channel audio.

Looks like there is lot of compression in audio... We can clearly feel the difference(its like watching a movie with 96kbps ac3 audio)

May be they are facing technical challenges in encoding the source... They only know whats the problem...

But one thing, it's not true that only center channel produces voice. Front channels also produce voice. I checked this on other HD channels like star movies and movies now by muting center channel. I can hear voice.

But one thing, it's not true that only center channel produces voice. Front channels also produce voice. I checked this on other HD channels like star movies and movies now by muting center channel. I can hear voice.

It is based on the scene of the movie you are watching. If a person in the scene who is on the left side of you is speaking, the audio will come from front left and from front right if the person is on your right.

Similarly if the person in the scene is standing behind your view of the scene, the sound will come from rear speakers.

No, the person is sitting in the middle of the screen, still the voice comes from center, both the front. I just checked again.
