Regional channels of Doordarshan will be off air for approximately five hours on this coming Thursday due to a shift of satellite.
The regional channels are currently being beamed from INSAT-3A and they will be shifted to INSAT-4B with on December 10.
INSAT-3A will be taken out of orbit having come to the End of Life (EOL) according to a declaration made by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Four new transponders have been provided for these channels on INSAT-4B by ISRO.
The services will remain off air from midnight till 5 a.m on 10 December.]
However, last month GSAT-15 was launched by Arianespace for ISRO in a bid to expand Direct-To-Home (DTH), telecommunication and radio navigation services.
It will provide telecommunications services for the country, along with dedicated navigation-aid and emergency services.
The 3164 kg GSAT-15 carries communication transponders in Ku-band as well as a GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) payload operating in L1 and L5 bands.
In fact, GSAT-15 was launched in anticipation to the phasing out of satellite INSAT-3A and to a later date, the EOL of INSAT-4B.
The newly-launched satellite will provide an upgrade for Doordarshan who will be able to provide an increased number of channels to its viewers.
Doordarshan’s direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service Freedish has 64 channels including its own channels, and the parliamentary channels Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV.
