DW Asia+, the channel from the German television network Deutsche Welle, will have a new name and look from 6 February.

The channel will be called DWTV and be positioned as a lifestyle, news and current affairs channel. It will undergo a complete revamp in its content and appearance, along with the logo.

DWTV head India office Sudeep Malhotra said, “DWTV will be positioned as a lifestyle, news and current affairs channel. It is a new genre we expect to explore and intend to pioneer. It is a new approach to disseminating news and other content to the audiences.”

Targeted at the 18+ age group of the country’s English speaking population, the channel will now have 24 hours of English language content as opposed to 16 hours of English and eight hours of German language content.

The philosophy behind the programme lineup is to provide news and current affairs in a more eye-catching and casual way so as to make it palatable for the TG.

DWTV will earn revenue through programme sales and syndication while ads will make up for less than 10 per cent of the earnings pie.

DW Asia+ has already been on Doordarshan's DTH platform, DD Direct PLus, for the past four years. DW TV will also be available on DTH and will continue to be a free-to-air channel.
