Neeraj Vyas justifying South movies outnumbering Hindi movies on Sony's Hindi movie channels. :tears::dodgy: (I have intentionally chosen more than one paragraph.)
I don't think South Indian films are chosen scientifically by Sony. Any movie (however bad) is put on air.
Source: BE Exclusive: Sony Pictures rides on content in 2019 - ET BrandEquityMeanwhile, the network plans to premier 40-45 movies on MAX, this year. Of this 12-14 films aired will be Hindi with the rest being South Indian films dubbed in Hindi. The network recently acquired broadcast rights for Kannada film, KGF which will be aired in the third week of February and Thugs of Hindostan which will be aired in the third week of March just before the Indian Premier League (IPL) starts.
“South Indian dubbed movies are doing very well not only on mainline Hindi movie channels but also on FreeDish. We run Sony Wah, a free-to-air (FTA) channel on FreeDish and dubbed films are doing well even on that channel,”explained Vyas.
At SPN, an entire team has been put together to curate South Indian dubbed films, which as per Vyas is done scientifically. Vyas noted that 2019 will be a turning point for broadcaster, as now much of the game will be driven by content for which preparations have already begun.
