RE: General discussions on TV channels news

MUMBAI: Broadcast Audience Research Council ( BARC) India has withdrawn its ratings suspension order against Telugu news channels TV9 and V6 News.

BARC India senior advocate Dinyar Madon stated that the ratings agency was withdrawing the order dated 24 November from 13 December without prejudice to its rights and contentions.

The statement was accepted by the bench of SJ Kathawalla.

The bench placed the notice of motion for hearing and final disposal on 20 December.

V6 News-owned VIL Media stated that the writ petition filed by it before Andhra Pradesh High Court would be withdrawn within one week from 13 December.

Associated Broadcasting Company Ltd (ABCL), the owner of TV9, and VIL Media had challenged the BARC order in Bombay High Court.

BARC India had suspended the ratings of three channels, namely India News, TV9 and V6 News, for allegedly trying to influence ratings.

VIL Media had challenged the order on 8 December while ABCL had done so on 9 December. The petitioners prayed for interim relief from the BARC order.

Earlier, Hindi news channel India News had secured an interim stay on the BARC order from Bombay High Court.

While staying the order, the bench had also added that India News would have to undergo the balance suspension period stayed by this order if BARC, at the stage of the hearing of the notice of motion, was able to prima facie establish the breach on the part of the Hindi news channel.

BARC India had on 24 November decided to suspend the ratings of India News, TV9 and V6 News for allegedly trying to influence panel homes to jack up their ratings.
