MUMBAI: Tarun Katial, the chief executive officer of Reliance Broadcast Network, is joining the Zee Group.

Katial will lead the TV content production business at Essel Vision Productions Ltd (EVPL) and original content for digital, a source familiar with the development said. He will also spearhead Jaipur Studios, a studio facility developed by ZEEL.

EVPL is the content production arm of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL). It is into the production of movies and TV shows.

Katial will report to ZEEL MD and CEO Punit Goenka, the source added.

As CEO of RBN, Katial has been leading the FM radio and TV broadcasting businesses of Anil Ambani.

It is not clear yet whether Katial will continue to oversee the FM radio business after Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) completes the acquisition of this piece of RBN’s business. Currently, ZMCL is awaiting regulatory approvals.

ZEEL will integrate the television business of RBN after the transaction is complete. The company is in the process of getting the regulatory approvals for acquiring RBN’s TV business.

Sony gets court order to stop cable TV operators from stealing IPL feed

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has got the support of the Delhi High Court to catch cable TV operators stealing its live IPL feed without having valid contract with the broadcaster.

SPNI has received a John Doe order, or injunctions, passed by a court of law against anonymous entities.

MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has released Rs 122.25 crore to DD Kisan channel between 2014–15 and 2016–17, Minister of State in the MIB Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in the Lok Sabha.

The total fund allocated for 2017–18 is Rs 80 crore, Rathore added.


The channel has introduced two daily news bulletins at 01:30 pm and 07:00 pm.

DD Kisan is available throughout the country. As a new initiative, a daily programme titled ‘Uttar Purvi Rajyon Se’ has been scheduled, which contains programmes from North Eastern states in their respective languages.
