Satellite operator SES Astra has expanded its German HDTV platform HD+ beginning from 1 June 2011. The children's channel Nickelodeon HD and entertainment channel Comedy Central HD have joined the offer which is distributed to DTH households in Germany on Astra (19.2° East). Both channels, which are transmitted in time- sharing mode, have so far only been available on IPTV platform Entertain on Deutsche Telekom's ADSL broadband network. Entertain also carries sister channels MTV HD, VIVA HD and MTVN HD. It is unknown whether these channels will join HD+ at a later stage. With the latest additions HD+ has a total of 9 free-TV channels on board. The encrypted bouquet can be received free of charge during the first 12 months. Households wishing to gain access after this period,
have to pay € 50 per year.
