@Rahulan Ratnarajah @Bishu15 Tata Sky To Expand Southan State
Riding on star appeal and endorsement, Direct-to-Home (DTH) service provider Tata Sky says its logging healthy growth rates in south India with its innovative offerings and expanding bouquet of channels in the regional languages.

“Telugu superstar actor Mahesh Babu, Kannada actor Sudeep and Malayalee actor Mohanlal have given a good push to help us close the gap with competition and improve recall and brand strengthening,” said Malay Dikshit, Chief Communication Officer, Tata Sky.

With digitisation phase-III expected by the end of this year and about 1,200 towns in the south to be covered, Tata Sky sees big opportunities in helping the cause of digitisation in the southern market and further consolidate. At present, the service brings in 95 per cent of channels to home subscribers, he told BusinessLine.

Focus points

In the coming year, the focus will be on meeting the demands of the urban consumer, be ready to provide service in tier-II and -III towns and promote the different channel packages on offer, he said.

The company has been able to achieve the preferred brand status in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, offering 24 out of 30 Telugu channels. The My 99 (Naa 99) pack launched in April, which gives the subscriber various regional channels along with the base pack, has helped push up subscriber base by over 50 per cent, he said.

With the 24x7 regional customer care service available to remote villages and towns, the DTH player has gained market share in Kurnool, Guntur, Ananthapur, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Tirupathi in AP, and Warangal, Adilabad, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nizamabad in Telangana.

Healthy growth

Tata Sky has over 14.5 million subscribers across the country and is posting a healthy double-digit growth, Dikshit added.
