Viacom wins the bid for Package C with INR 3,273 cr (33.24 cr per match for 98 matches). The base price - at INR 16 crore per game for 98 games - was INR 1568 crore.

What it means is that Digital Value has surpassed the TV. Per match value of entire digital (Package B & C) now stands at INR 57.98 crore (average combine of 410 + 18 select matches) compared TV's INR 57.4 crore.

They already have an excellent rapport so no need to worry. They will develop a strategy where in both star/disney and viacom18 can garner max viewership and revenue. Both TV and digital have different expenses be it transmission or other things and largely cater to different set of audience though there is some overlapping thus having a focused strategy will benefit both players, there is huge room for both to grow. Star/disney will have try some innovative step to attract tv audience as just like this year next year shift to digital will only happen more.... They should give sports chs for free or at discounted rates or do some other thing so that audience interest is generated and new set of audience too joins in. Maybe airing some games on Star Sports First and making it available on DD Free Dish thereby trying to attract audience towards upgrading to pay tv platforms will be the smartest move as still in India TV is mass medium for entertainment and there is huge scope to get DD Free Dish viewers or people who have recently joined / planning to b part of TV Universe to opt for pay tv platforms. Ofcourse all will not upgrade so they need to keep a balance on what to offer to FTA viewers and pay tv subscribers.

Star/disney also needs to improve pre match and post match shows presentation, sony did a fab job on this front and watching these shows were a fun experience. Star Sports tried to b extremely formal in earlier editions 2017 to 2019) , later add some fun part but it was rather a not so enjoyable experience watching pre match or post shows.

Viacom18 too has huge scope to succeed as digital has tremendous growth potential. With internet penetration, speed, OTT bundle plans (free and discounted), connected TV /Hybrid Cable/DTH STB available and changes in viewing pattern of different segment of audience there will b a lot which viacom18 and experiment with and reach out to large audience base. Voot and Jio TV will further strengthen its subscriber base and increase in viewership. Also digital offers scope to have better targetted approach for ads thereby giving brands to have a better impact while saving costs, in linear tv such mechanism is there and star/disney can take advantage of it though it would require some infrastructure deployment at operator and broadcaster uplink stations.
Viacom18 will surely bring in some interesting shows, contests. Already shared that a freemium approach would even further scale up all the positive outcome

Was just wondering if viacom18 had not bid for Package C then would it have resulted in more financial loss for them as compared to loss likely to b incurred by paying hefty amount again for 98 games which r included in Package C ?
