Both factors matter—the hardware is already low, and they've (Tata Play) done heavy customization on the OS side. If they reduced the customization in Android, it would be much better.

So What's Wrong In Tata Play Box?

The OS side plays a crucial role, which is why stock Android devices perform much better. Otherwise, they need to optimize it much more effectively.

If Tata Play Provides Software Like Android TV Or Sun Direct Ka Software Type, Will That Make Box Really Faster?

Actually, it's the nature of modern hardware - they eventually become obsolete with every new iteration of OS... That's why phone companies update the models with new hardware almost every year.
If the UI could be made a bit more lighter, it will improve the usability. But due to hardware bottleneck, it won't be as expected and will again be unusable after some time due to downloading new apps, OS updates etc. It's time TATA Play releases a new Binge+ box with better hardware and at least 4 GB RAM.
For an example, take AppleTV 4k (3rd Gen). It was released back in 2022. The hardware is so good that even after almost 2/3 years, it's still blazing fast! If TATA Play could put even one third of that performance in their box, it would have been an achievement in itself!
But Indian DTH companies compromise with quality and usability with cheap products to attract more customers, which in turn backfires at them and they start whining about losses and losing customers!
There should have been a distinction - affordable HD boxes and appropriately priced high end Hybrid boxes. The choice should be with customers. Entertainment has its cost. If a company can't make money, it can't give us better products. Quality always wins!
There has been no innovation in the Indian broadcast TV sector since eternity!!!

My opinion is All DTH providers should introduce new set top box with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and 4k, without Android TV or Google TV because almost all TVs are Smart TVs, then what is the use of Android or Google TV set top boxes. Watching in CRT TVs is no use.

STB with clean Google TV OS (not Android tv os) interface will do just fine with decent hardware...

But we need good picture and sound only, for cost cutting DTH providers can avoid Google OS. HD boxes have no lagging issue.

Personally, I recommend an HD box for live channel viewing, and only choose an Android STB if you really need it. If you already have an Android device like an Android box, stick, or TV, use that instead.
