bcoz earlier it was not possible for them to keep standalone pricing extremely high for all channels as well as increase price of broadcaster bouquet by some margin as bouquet pricing cap was set at 33%. Now with it being set to 45% they can keep standalone prices high for driver channels and even for some other channels while increasing bouquet pricing by little margin. They want to maintain this huge difference in pricing and keep a-la-carte channels very costly while want bouquet to cost lot less though still get good ARPU from it.

Now they r pushing for complete removal of price cap on a-la-carte channels which can be included in bouquet which will allow them to price some individual channels even higher and provide them in bouquet at lower price. Later u will see them telling that even there should no discount cap on bouquet price so that they can price individual channel at even Rs. 60 or 70 per month while give the same along with many other channels in bouquet for Rs. 60 or 70

If you have broadband connection, then it will be good time for scrapping TV connection and take OTT subs/add on.
OTT is inconvenient. If you are watching Zee TV on OTT and wish to check Sony TV, you will need to come out of Zee5 app and click sony liv and then navigate to Sony Television and then watch. Moreover, now on hotstar you can't watch live tv apart from sports.

Switching OTTs, not like TV, tell elders to watch serials or movies on their convinient day time before TV without ads, so we can watch live streaming t20 match or news in the night, that’s flexibility in OTTs.

There had been certain changes implemented before Supreme Court ordered status quo until final verdict is out....eventually in Feb 2022 broadcasters had withdrawn their plea from Supreme Court. Also just to let u know operators had already implemented NTO 2.0 rules long back which increases FTA channel count in entrt NCF Slab to 200 and Multi TV NCF was lowered to Rs. 61 for entry NCF Slab

Current RIO of various broadcasters have a bouquet price cap of 33% which was brought in thru amendments in 2020-21. Rs. 12 capping on A-La-Carte channel pricing was not adopted by broadcasters and status quo was maintained on it bcoz of honorable court order. Since Feb 2022 plea was withdrawn from court but as TRAI entered into consultations with broadcasters,,operators hence old standing RIO and NTO rules have continued until now.

As i have stated 1st of the twin conditions as stated in NTO rules is still applicable and current broadcaster bouquet have been designed accordingly. If there was no bouquet price cap then u would have seen broadcasters increasing standalone prices long back when RIO was introduced. Some broadcasters like disney star ,,viacom18, sony have updated / brought New RIO few times since NTO was 1st implemented in beginning of 2020 until same was disallowed by the court order.

Price ceiling for a-la-carte channels was brought down to Rs. 12 in last NTO rule amendments as broadcasters were still offering key driver channels at quite high individual pricing as compared to the pricing when these channels were included in broadcaster bouquet . This happened as 2nd twin condition was struck down by court
Oh! These long theories, everyone knows about it, but the fact still is that nothing was ever implemented, what remained practical was the original NTO without 15% discount on MRP on bouquets,

Please don't repeat those theories, everybody knows them,
Instead If you can ever quote a DPO which implemented those long theories you keep on mentioning.

I've quoted, as you asked for, DPO packs which are live, and are the same with heavy discounts, since implementation of NTO 1.0.

AFAIK @dino29

NTO 1.0 Had No Capping ON Discount

Bouquets Were Offered At Higher Discounts!

Can You Mention Some More Your Points??

Anna, are these currently applicable price of these bouquet . I am talking about present bouquet and for star disney bouquets u will have to find to find and compare discount on their latest bouquet in implementation which is there on certain platforms like Airtel Digital TV. Tata Play is having agreement for older variant of their RIO bouquet which complied to initial rules hence there would be no capping more discount available on bouquet

If we want to duplicate live tv through ott than it is not user friendly... And one more thing...
SonyLiv, zee5, Hotstar doesn't provide good monthly packs... Simply we need to subscribe for an year....
Where in dth we can even subscribe for a day....
OTT is not cheap in India.... Ofcourse, when compared to western countries it is cheap.... But same case with dth.... Even, nto 2.0 leads to price increase than also it is cheap when compared to ott because we don't need to commit for anything for an year or not even a month.. In dth...
And, one more thing sports quality is not good as compared to dth in ott...
Still, dth and cable TV has many advantages when compared to ott in India....
I don't think there is no chance of huge cord cutting disruption in India if broadcasters are interested to do so..
But big broadcasters have advantages with ott like they are directly selling the app so commission for dth operators... And all...
But even if people start opting for ott... People will surely feel the irritation of multiple payments and multiple subscriptions... The same thing is happening in USA...

So, my suggestion please check everything and try all apps u need to watch your content than only cut the cord don't hurry... It is not that good.. The hype is just temporary, people will surely love try new things.. But end of the day comfort is matter....

Totally agree. Both OTT and Linear TV have huge scope of growth in India. Cord cutting will be limited to very minute part of TV Universe. Linear TV still has many advantages but broadcasters need to price the channels properly and give customers choice to select their favourite channels at affordable price thru both bouquet and a-la-carte mode. Also instead of airing repetitive content on many channels, they need to offer diverse, good content on their channels and above all adapt/reinvent content strategy to attract audience across channels available in various genres.

There r only handful of channels doing the same right now while mostly broadcasters r just trying to bundle and push uninteresting content to viewers thru discounted bouquet route which won't yield good outcome. Most people will keep opting for DD Free Dish and others will chose OTT while subscribing very few channels on linear TV or should i say not be regular subscriber of most channels...broadcasters cannot expect to grow and be successful this way.

TRAI NTO 2.0 previous version were excellent, even NTO 1.0 rules were very good but broadcasters did not adopt the same in right letter and spirit rather they intentionally crafted pricing / bouquet which was not good/costly and tried to build impression among common people that NTO rules are to blame for costly channels / packs which was not at all true..

Hope that broadcasters learn and implement correct strategy else for sure they will keep losing subscribers

Trai big mistake 153rs NCF this is worst decision,
50rs is a reasonable price.

NCF is not the reason for costly....have had discussed this point earlier tooo....do search "NCF reason high prices pre NTO" with my user name in member name box in search bar and u will get a
clarity to this wrong assumptions
