MUMBAI: Star CJ Alive, India’s first home shopping channel, is all set to be rechristened ‘Shop CJ’ following the change in ownership last year that saw the exit of Star India from the 50:50 joint venture with South Korean home shopping major CJ O Shopping.
The name of the company has also changed to Shop CJ Network, which is now half-owned by P5 Asia Holding Investments (Mauritius), belonging to the Providence Equity Partners group, besides CJ O Shopping.
The company was earlier known as Star CJ India Network.
Shop CJ Network will launch a multi-media campaign to announce the rebranding of the channel. It also operates a web-based portal shopcj.com.
Star India had last year sold its 50 per cent stake in the home shopping venture to Providence Equity Partners for $63 million, thus valuing the company at $126 million.
As per the deal between Star and Providence, Star CJ had the right to use the Star brand for up to one year.
Star CJ Network India CEO Kenny Shin had earlier revealed to TelevisionPost.c om the company’s plan for a female lifestyle channel called Star CJ2. The company is currently awaiting licence from the government to launch the channel.
Star CJ Alive is available on major DTH, analogue, and digital cable platforms and reaches more than 65 million households in India. It was launched in 2009, and within five and a half years, added 6.5 million shoppers.
The Indian home shopping market is pegged at Rs 2,500 crore (Rs 25 billion), with CJ Shop and Homeshop18 being the two key players.
E-commerce platform Snapdeal had recently formed a JV with multi-system operator (MSO) DEN Networks to launch a home shopping channel called DEN Snapdeal TV Shop.
