German media company Mainstream Networks Holding will offer its pay-TV channel Romance TV in high-definition in Poland. Romance TV HD will launch on 1 September 2011 on DTH satellite platform "n", and giving viewers a glimpse at the upcoming line-up, selected programmes of the channel will be made available on the video-on-demand (VOD) service provided by "n" to its subscribers from 1 August 2011. With the launch on the DTH platform operated by ITI Neovision, Romance TV will gain an additional potential of more than 1 million subscriber households. In its home country Germany, Romance TV is currently only offered in standard-definition. The channel, which targets a female audience with romantic series, movies and telenovelas, launched a
Polish version of its service on 17 December 2010 which is carried by domestic cable TV operators. With Romance TV, Mainstream Networks Holding has further international expansion plans. "A successful performance in an attractive market such
as Poland encourages us to establish the channel format Romance TV in further markets," said Tim Werner, managing director of Mainstream Networks
and Romance TV Polska. Mainstream Networks Holding is a subsidiary of Mainstream Media AG founded by TV manager Gottfried Zmeck. ZDF Enterprises, the commercial arm of German public broadcaster ZDF, holds a 26% stake in the company.
