"A Star & Disney India insider said while there is a drop, it is unfair to compare last two week’s data with the first leg.

“First of all, there was momentum loss due to the break. Secondly, the games are not identical. There were many close finish games in the first leg, but so far the second leg has been low scorer matches. Having said that, there is an overall drop in cricket viewership,” he said. “Total number of viewers tuning in to watch has come down across TV and even Hotstar .."

Advertisers worried over sudden drop in IPL viewership rating
/IPL ratings dropped by 15-20%. IMO one of the reason this happened is because of over supply of cricket. When you watch cricket 24/7 even 10 year old highlights, then you are bound to be bored of it. There will be no excitement. Of course there are other big reasons like pandemic induced problems. It will be interesting if these data will impact IPL auction price. This is 2nd time ratings have dropped.

Absolutely. It has been overkill from STAR from the last 6-7 years. They have been feeding us cricket non-stop...so people were bound to vomit at some point of time. Let's hope they learn a good lesson from these data.

True. Euro 2020, CONCAFF, Olympics even some pl matches posted double digit growth over previous edition. What happened to IPL exclusively? I think It's just an over feeding issue. They need to fix it.

It is just like killing the goose laying golden eggs.
Too much cricket is killing the view ership.
