While we google about Jiostar then there appears Only one breaking news 'Jiostar website goes live and launched new plans starting Rs 15' in all websites including big media groups.
All we know that they just only moved all old current active star packs to jiostar website.
This is absolute shame for our media industry with so much educated and intelligent people working.
Do they really do any reasearch before publishing their articles or they do it deliberately for some purpose 🤔

What an analysis by this genius

Uday Shankar has stated that the merged company would not have FOMO when it comes to cricket rights, indicating that they are not gonna overpay for acquiring rights.

He was the one responsible for exorbitant increase in the cost of broadcasting rights at first place. There was a time when ESPN-Star held BCCI, ICC, CA, ECB, CLT20, Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, F1, Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Then once ESPN left the JV, they started spending mindless amount of money for renewal of ICC rights (2015 onwards) and later the BCCI rights (2018 onwards). Also shelled out insane amount for IPL. Now crying foul.
ESPN were sensible about spending money over cricketing rights and hardly overspent while they were part of the JV. Remember how Nimbus Sports got destroyed by buying the BCCI rights at not so feasible value. It's just that Star had the financial acumen to survive this. Although Disney realised this in time and let go BCCI rights in this cycle.

I hope this brings down the pricing.

Sony has been consistent with their bids which makes them a profitable entity while star is not.

But also, Until 2013 when ESPN was a part of the JV, Only ESS existed, then onwards came Sony actively bidding and further Viacom18 was aggressive, taking prices ahead, remember Sony was highest bidder for IPL tv only rights for India when Star captured Global rights.

Going forward, If Sony prefers backfoot approach like now, there won't be fierce competition given that Star and Viacom18 are one now, hence bringing the rights price more towards base than towards exponential rise

But now he's understanding and still cricket is most loved sport so everyone wants to have it but under his guidance star never had to go for merger
