I hope this brings down the pricing.

Sony has been consistent with their bids which makes them a profitable entity while star is not.

1stly given the huge difference in scale of broadcast business of Sony and Star India , there cannot be any comparison.... Also just to let u know Star India business has always remained profitable bcoz almost all of their channels have been performing exceedingly well all through last 10 or 15 years and its the sports business which generates losses owing to costly India Cricket (IPL, BCCI) and ICC rights which again is absorbed in total revenue/ profit earned thereby negating the loss..... This year losses happened bcoz at last moment Zee declined to continue with agreement they had signed with Disney-Star for acquiring ICC rights from them and hence Star India had to bear that cost + there r huge production + programming + transmission costs involved so although they earned good revenue and overall too Star Sports revenue for FY2024 (Nov 2023 - October 24 as Disney counts fiscal year this way) grew by 40% but still cost involved in airing big ICC events and including the acquisition costs of new ICC rights thereby losses mounted up.

Sony has such tiny portfolio of channels and there too only few r performing well, they invest less on sporting properties too particularly India Cricket and even promotion wise too they r not to too aggressive hence again marketing spends (ads on rival networks channels) r also less.... Even in Hindi Movie genre their spending on buying new or old bollywood movies is quite less and Sony TV too airs fewer shows so overall they spend less on other fronts too so chances of incurring losses r fewer

But now he's understanding and still cricket is most loved sport so everyone wants to have it but under his guidance star never had to go for merger
If u notice up until then there was also not such a fierce rivalry between Star India and Viacon18 rather there was lot of friendly competition and even agreements with Viacom18 (hindi movies deal), Jio (Star was sponsor for Jio Mami Festival) , Jio Studios - Star agreement etc. .. It was post Disney acquired Star India that Reliance became hyper competitive particularly in sports rights thus Disney being conservative in approach decided its best to take a step back and look for a partnership so as to grow the business + leverage other opportunities they shall get when coming together with Reliance and vicer versa

Just came to my mind Gia Manek who used to play Gopi Bahu in Star Plus's popular drama Saath Nibhana Saathiya was kick out because of her participating in rivalry Colors's reality show Jhalak Dikhlaja.
Things would be different if it would have happened before?

He is the one who destroyed star India.
Here he will not given a free hand and will be sacked by Ambani
But other than cricket star was doing well in other businesses like star plus was a leader in gec space star gold had a different identity by having a Bollywood centric strategy

Uday Shankar has stated that the merged company would not have FOMO when it comes to cricket rights, indicating that they are not gonna overpay for acquiring rights.
Relax bois these things are need to said to be in investors good books otherwise, they are not fool to learn about things.

He was the one responsible for exorbitant increase in the cost of broadcasting rights at first place. There was a time when ESPN-Star held BCCI, ICC, CA, ECB, CLT20, Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, F1, Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Then once ESPN left the JV, they started spending mindless amount of money for renewal of ICC rights (2015 onwards) and later the BCCI rights (2018 onwards). Also shelled out insane amount for IPL. Now crying foul.
ESPN were sensible about spending money over cricketing rights and hardly overspent while they were part of the JV. Remember how Nimbus Sports got destroyed by buying the BCCI rights at not so feasible value. It's just that Star had the financial acumen to survive this. Although Disney realised this in time and let go BCCI rights in this cycle.
Uday Sankar/James Murdoch era is peak and golden period for STAR's dominance in India due to aggressive acquisition of all cricket rights, south regional netowrks Asianet, Maa tv, Vijay tv and birth of hotstar & rise with Jio's free data in digital space. They have again with Ambani clinches rights of IPL digital and BCCI in e-auction against Sony, but Disney Star with Madhavan won ICC closed door bid for high amoout of 3bn USD, Later Disney writes off/shows loss of 1.5 bn USD in STAR India books and merged with Viacom18.
