With this, even OTT platforms seem to be heading toward doom. The plan to tap into untapped audiences from Tier 2, 3 and 4 cities means we can expect more crass and regressive OTT content in the future.

Reading this article reminded me of how progressive television in the 1990s turned into a disaster of regressive content post 2000s. This shift happened when tv penetration increased and rating agencies started factoring in the preferences of the masses, unlike in the 1990s when elite audiences largely influenced TV content. Thats why content in the 90s was significantly more progressive.

Similarly i can see OTT platforms heading in the same direction as post 2000s television aiming to engage untapped rural audiences. Eventually, these audiences will form the majority and just like today’s tv industry, OTT platforms will prioritize catering to them to generate massive revenues.

yes , which is what i stated.

Disney-Star still exists and so does Viacom18 as different companies , these have together formed a Joint Venture and in that All the broadcast assets of Viacom18, Jio, Star India r included.....

Star India Private Limited is the name of the subsidiary company of Disney-Star under which Disney operated its channels in India and hence under the agreement it was decided to transfer all media assets of Viacom18, Jio to Star India Private Limited under which all the transactions will be undertaken in the new merged entity.... Hence u saw even TV Channels licence owner names of Viacom18 being changed and transferred to Star India Private and most likely same will happen for Disney Kids and Nat Geo channels soon.

Don't confuse JioStar with Disney-Star, former is JV company name and latter is subsidiary of Disney in India which operates the Broadcast Business and is part of JV which includes Reliance (Viacom18, Jio media assets)..... As far shareholding in the joint venture company is concerned, Disney owns nearly 37% while Reliance owns 56%, Star India Private Limited is not the JV name , it is just the subsidiary of the JV under which media operations, transactions will be done
1.Star India private limited is owned by Disney India then and branded it as 'Disney Star'.
2.The JV name is Star India Private Limited or SIPL which was wholly owned by Disney once became a JV by integrating Viacom 18 assets and it is going to branded as 'JioStar'. So DisneyStar makes way for JioStar.
I answered previously for this type of informations you shared.
Again you r not understanding the information i shared correctly....Anyways won't repeat writing same things again as already clarified number of times...refer to my previous posts and once again read them to clear the confusion as u r mixing up various things thereby coming up with wrong conclusion.... Lastly wait as in coming days u will see what i have stated will stand out to be true
You should read your posts & ask these questions yourself. Things you saying are just 'make belief'.
You are pretending this JV like Hero Honda or Maruti Suzuki which they can part away anytime with their identities and assets. Likewise Disney can go with Star from this JV when it breaks sometime. No bro things went out of hands of Disney. Reliance is now the decision maker of the whole things.

I think their will be both content for masses and elite audiences

Yes true.
Pls dont get confused with the previously proposed where star india was a direct subsidiary of viacom18 was proposed

But now its different as per the press release
1. reliance brought out paramount shares in viacom18
2. Viacom18 was transferred to digital 18 with officially defuncting vicom18 as a brand.

3. Digital 18 was merged into star india whole owned subsidiary of disney india

4. Reliance brought minority shares in disney india shares of star india .

5. Viacom18 shareholders including reliance got shares of star india via share swap .

Disney star is a brand name given to star india pre jv .
Disney star brand name has now been ceased to exist .
Jiostar is being used instead of Disney star for the jv . But the company will keep operating as star india pvt ltd

Looks like teams will continue to be different at lower level wheras the top level would be centralised
